Let's See YOUR DODGE!

I'm in the market for a diesel and can't decide between Dodge Cummins or Ford Powerstroke. Also with the Cummins what are the pro's and con's or just the overall differences with the 12v and 24v. Also are there anythings that I should look out for when buying one used? Does anyone have one for sale? Thanks

12 Valve: 94-98

Pros: Best mileage, cheap horsepower upgrades, strong injection pump, stock fuel system will support about 700 to 800 horsepower

Cons: Killer dowel pin, do not have the ability to detune when towing other than a valet switch, get hot easier when towing, stock hp ranges from 160 to 215 depending on year and trans, weak automatic trans, front axle on 4wd is trouble

24 Valve: 98.5 to 02

Pros: Good mileage (about the same as 12 valve), cheap horsepower upgrades

Cons: VP-44 injection pump WILL fail at some point in time, front axle on 4wd is trouble, weak auto trans, needs upgraded fuel system to keep VP-44 alive

24 Valve Common Rail: 03 to 07

Pros: Injection pump more reliable, more horsepower 305 for 03 and 04, 325 for 04.5 til 07, crew cab available, auto trans stronger but still the weak link, changed from Dana to AAM axles-less problems than Dana front end, tons of aftermarket parts available, easy to make lots of power

Cons: Less fuel mileage (03/04 are the best, 04.5/05 less, 06/07 worst), aftermarket parts more expensive such as injectors, stock exhaust manifold will burn #5 cylinder if making high horsepower, stock clutches are good for about 100 hp over stock, stock autos are good for about 60 hp over stock and still be reliable

yea thanks. i was considering an airdog, but i just went with the raptor b/c this factory filtering system was good enough for me. plus the easier installation of the raptor was convenient.
 
Lucas, its hard to miss unfortunatly :lol: . Pretty sure you can hear it 10 miles away. I have been meaning to come down and shoot the crap with ya but just havent gotten a chance. Still learning a few things about this truck after blowing my 6.0 powerchoke up a few too many times.
