Lots of interesting news today

This has to be one of the dumbest effin things I've seen. Buy a overpriced truck and whine because you have to take the hit trying to sell it. He's not trapped, he just doesn't want to lose that much money!

Dealers take advantage of people all the time trapping folks in their cars, rolling over trade in's and what not.
Guess he shouldn’t have paid that extra $15k for useless shit to impress his buddies at the CrossFit/BJJ gym.

A fool and his money will soon part ways.

what a dumb system this was anyway.....one micrometer of foot twitch on the brake pedal and the engine starts right back up anyway

1 - agree its irritating. When I get in my wife's car first thing I do is disable it.
2 - I don't have a problem with the idea of incentives or goals to decrease emissions, but why should the EPA care what the underlying means is? Just reward based on MPGs and total CO etc. If a mfr wants to get there via start stop, sure. If they want to get there via cutting holes in the floor and the driver Flinstones it, sure, ok... whatever works. All that matters is the outcome.

The Volonaut Airbike looks cool

I look forward to these being released in 10 years and buying a crashed one for parts in 20.

When I worked for Denso in maryville tn we tested the starters for auto shutdown on vehicles rented from hertz, they would sit on a dyno and be started 100 times then run for simulated 10 miles before the next cycle, this motors were toast when we returned the vehicles only showing a few thousand miles more than we got them at. Cranking is the worst thing for an engine

I seem to recall a discussion about how this works recently. That at least some modern cars don't use the starter for this function. It just uses the electronic ignition and known piston information to directly start the motor. Much smarter system.

Cause that won’t cost 86.54976% more than a standard, run of the mill starter……

Actually... its costs almost nothing.
Modern cars already have all of the components - you just need electronic ignition and a decent crank position sensor and a microprocessor to track everything.. It isn't rocket surgery.

Literally everything you listed cost money. A lot of it. Design, integration, communication amongst all of those systems. The engineering and red tape to accomplish it. Money.

“I’m sorry, our base model shoebox cost $50k. But, look what it can do while you drive from A-B!!!”

Maybe - but its happening.... so....

A man-bun fru fru coffee drinker from 2025 goes back in time to explain to little house on the prairie folks that droves of men are cutting off their penises to pursue a life they believe they were born to explore. Little house folks gasp and can't believe the thought....and this would be the man-buns response 🤣

You mean an even more complex system reliant on multiple sensors, and information stored in a data stack that can get corrupted by the infotainment system that is also on the same CAN BUS system.

How does anyone think that is an improvement?

You should try reprogramming a Super Duty just to accept some flashing light!
Freaking PWM and LEDs with bulb detection and circuit ohm and amperage parameters.....and and and. Heck we could write enough code that the driver door must be open, humidity outside is a certain percentage, and the engine has to be at a temp range, and the passenger seat un-occupied for a damn turn signal on the right side only to work.
