Lowes hardware

Problem is, all we have is Lowes.

Same here..... I used to work for Home Depot At Home Services selling roofing, siding and windows - my territory covered the High Point store, two Winston Salem Stores and three Greensboro stores. The closest store to my house was 31 miles door to door. Only job that after working there for 6 months, I was actually poorer than I was when I started. Would have actually been better off on unemployment.

Lowes blows.....HD is my go to, but not the Apex store :shaking:. The one on Walnut st. is OK. The one in Fuquay Varina is better, but the traffic getting to and from it sucks, unless you know the back roads/streets.

Tuttle Hardware in Walnut Cove has more useful hardware stuff than Lowes and HD combined.
PLUS ...... someone always offers to help.

All you get in the other two is an echo, echo, echo .....

Needed some bolts for my k5, both Lowe’s here ) greenville didn’t have any, It was easier to order them online and wait a day or two. One of them is about a mile from my house, and I’ve been going there since they moved Lowe’s from Greenville Blvd to Thomas Langston (20 years or so). My middle school shop teacher now works there, few of the employees I’ve seen working there for well over 10 years. But they normally have to call for back up if there is only 2 or 3 registers open. Normally I just check out on the building materials side because less people are there. They need to bring Home Depot back to Greenville, which Rob mentioned they are/might be a while back.

I'm in the middle of building a home and I have noticed less options in electrical/lumber dept's. Other day I was looking for grounding rods and they were out of regular rods so I bought the copper plated ones. Also needed lumber for a deck and basement walls. I had to buy some longer than needed material and had a good size pile of scrap when done. The builder here in Morganton that's doing our shell buys his material from Hinson all the way down in Forest City I believe.

I prefer HD.

It's a simple model...big conglomerate comes in and shuts down mom and pops with lower pricing and more selection. Big conglomerate has established their territory, doesn't have to try to win over the community any more and starts slowly circling the drain. Big conglomerate gets worse as they try to save costs with cheaper labor and less selection. Everyone gets nostalgic and remembers the good ol days of yesteryear with mom and pops on every street corner. More and more people buy online, big conglomerate closes its doors.

Exceptions to every rule...but most brick and mortars are dead on their feet for 10 years before they realize they're in serious trouble.

Good selection of bolts at Tractor Supply and Agrisupply. Sometimes I go a little further out to Automotive Fastners but I dislike employee at Fastenal

Lowes stock and dividend performance over the past several years would suggest they are doing alright.

I know everything they do doesn't appeal to the hardcore wrench-turning dudes we all are, but its working for them from a business aspect.

Will they still be around in 10 years? In some form. Maybe Lowes and HD merge, that seems to be the trend in the business world these days. But at least one of them will be around, and they will continue selling what women see on HGTV.

Lowes in Wake Forest is a shit hole. Worst employee's in NC work there. One specific mid 50's Yankee bastard in the lumber section. Pure arrogant dip shit.

Does anybody remember the HQ home headquarters now that was a store?

Worked at the one in Winston back in college. Hated that green outfit, but we got regular training on what department we were in. And it wasn't a matter of moving people from one dept to another. You had to "qualify" to be moved. I.E. you had to have proper training or certificate, or like in outdoor landscaping, you had to have some botanical background or attend classes at tech school and know scientific names for plants. I was in college for Architectural engineering, so I got to work in "paint" and home center

I have as much faith in the stock market as a do in Beavis's ability to differentiate between a 2x4 and a light switch.

Our Lowes here is pretty good. Ive known most of the employees for a while. Most are at least familiar with the products. They also do a great deal to help our local area. They hired a disabled guy in a wheel chair(I think hes a vet, butnot 100% sure) as well as his service dog.

If you arent satisfied with your local Lowes, give corporate a call. Their offices are in Mooresville and headquarters/ customer care is in Wilkesboro. They will take care of you. 1-877-665-6937

BLowes and HomeDumpot...both suck equally, but still beat many supply houses on prices so I still end up shopping at them both on almost a daily basis. I worked for Lowes, a cousin worked for HD. Both of us used to give each other shit but have now come to agreement that they all suck equally. Both of us are now project managers in different fields but still need supplies and materials from places like them on the regular.

Anything I know I need ahead of time comes from McMaster, Monoprice, Wayfair, Amazon or a handful of other e-com sites. Bulk material like plywood and laminates etc still come from Rugby, Piedmont Plastics and a few other supply houses depending on who has what we need in stock for the best prices.

Huh. Let's all reflect way back to post #18 in this thread....
An employee told me they don't carry automotive tools when I was looking for (can't remeber). Wonder how much Crapsman tools they will actually carry?

A few guys have mentioned Fastenal. They have a pretty neat selection but mostly I have notice prices equivalent to precious metals instead of zinc coated hardware.
