Funny you say that. I got a call recently about hauling some up north too.

Yep trucks are asking stupid money right now. Bridgestone has been giving me 2 - 3 extra inbound rubber loads a week for the last month. Oh actually had to turn and burn the trucks to keep them moved.
 
We bought two more pallets of mud before it went up and placed a hefty Benjamin Moore order as well . Managed to find blue edge osb for $29 a sheet and bought all they had . The futures are staying strong and dont look to come down soon. I was talking to a buyer for a 2billion dollar a year lumber company yesterday and they think it will stay up like this through next spring. I hope he is wrong...
 
Just updated our company price sheets after getting my mill reports overnight.
2x12 is insnanely costly right now. Went up even more over the last 2 weeks.
Panel products are going up rapidly as well. Sheathing grade plywood is now 3 times way it was 1 year ago. Obviously this creates a higher treated market too.
2x6 and 2x8 went down, albeit minimally. OSB, subfloor and ZIP is nearly impossible to get.
 
Drywall mud is still in short supply, Insulation from Owens Corning is also allocated. Metal was supposed to go up another 10% April 1 .......one manufacturer said it is going to be 20%. the rest will most likely follow.

From our supplier Salesman (who is ready to have a heart attack)
Steel increases are a result of Trump tariffs,, it was an effort to stop China dumping cheap steel into the US
Fiberglass reduced production due to covid, demand went up
Same with wood, production, demand and Tariffs.
Drywall mud and paint, latex plants in TX Storm pipes froze and broke, plants shut down.
The rest is gouging where they see everyone else increasing we should be able to get a piece of the pie.

I want to use the like emoji to thank you for keeping us updated. I want to use the wow emoji for how much things are going up. I want to use the angry emoji and the sad emoji for how the price increase are kicking our asses. Basically, you get all the emojis that we can select.
 
Now I'm REALLY pissed.

Talking to wife today, said well now that the weather's warmed up and it's clear I can't build that new garage any time soon, I guess it's time to push tve old Bromco into the old garage and start the teardown and rebuild and work with what I have.

Her response? Oh, well yes go ahead. And since you won't be spending on the garage you'll have plenty of budget for the build.
And when you're done, you won't need that garage any more anyway. And if you do... well you can sell the Bronco to afford it.

Now I'm pissed because i can't figure out if she's really wrong.

Man, this thread really makes me feel good about myself. I lucked all the way around it seems. I built my house year before last for normal prices. Maybe a tad high, but we got exactly what we wanted other than a few minor details we overlooked. Then covid hit and I was able to snag a 2.5% refi. I truly feel sorry for someone trying to build a custom home in the next year. Not only are cost up, rates are creeping back up. The idea of my framing package being 40,000 higher is hard to wrap my head around. Whew.

Go ahead now and tell her the truth about rebuilding old vehicles. It will be worth at best 30% of what you spend on parts when it's all done. Dump 30 grand into it, and hope and pray it will sell for 10 when it's finished.

The amount of stuff that I have that "I'll buy for this one job, sell it when I am done, and break even." ....then, you find you use it often enough you can't sell it.

My current shop is literally next door to our lumberyard. So I have access to a 13k forklift anytime I need it. Once I move the shop to my house, no more lift.
Unless of course I have a skid steer :huggy:
Our driveway is about 5/8 mile long. When it snows, we have to hire a guy to scrape it. I'm sure I can have the neighbors chip in and pay me instead.
Maybe some easy side jobs too.
Or maybe I'm justifying a purchase I've wanted for a long time. Actually, that's exactly what I'm doing and my wife fully supports the idea!
