A GPS RECEIVER receives info from a satellite...you dont have a satellite transmitter in your phone.
In other words your phone sees the satellite the satellite doesnt see your phone
They have the same thing in China , India. We arnt the only ones with technology.
I've had 2 phones stolen and recovered with gps. While it had no sim card only power.
Just 239 people missing. :/
It depends on the phone. Some have an actual GPS built in, like my Casio Commando. Regardless, that only tells you where you are, it doesn't tell anyone else where you are, and even knowing where you are relative to a satellite is completely useless if you don't have maps downloaded for that area. A satellite phone is totally different, because it allows you to communicate via a satellite instead of a cell tower..... correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that cell phones triangulated off of towers for their GPS location. I know that everytime I have been in an airplane GPS on my phone would not work b/c no service at 35k ft. The only phones that I know that actually connect w satellites are satellite phones.
AgreedI think the fire theory is the most likely. After reading the whole article...it just makes sense.
