I remember the first time going to the gas chamber at basic. Drill sergeant made us remove our masks, when that shit hit me I didn’t know what to do. I hocked a loogie about the time the drill sergeant was reaching out and it went dead into his palm. Good snotty one too. He proceeded to wipe it on my shoulder and yell something but I couldn’t comprehend from my eyes, throat, and lungs being filled with lava. Didn’t bother me as bad as my career went on, but that first time broke me off.

I just about snotted just reading that! Yeah, I don’t know what it was about that first time in and pulling off the masks… that burned like hell. Wasn’t so bad as the years went on just like you said. Can still taste that shit though lol
