Mr. Ed buggy

well got motor running today. noticed a small oil leak, after further inspection noticed that the block is stinkin cracked. above the oil filter, sucks ass!!! so now what. here are my options. try to repair the bock. by another block and swap over all the parts. or i've got a 6.0 in a 62 chevy i've been building, i could drop the 6.0 in the buggy and fix the ls1 and stick in the truck. whatcha guys think?

you know what i think....

Try to TIG the Block.......Concentrate the heat on the crack.....I will check with Dave G.....Talk to you soon...

Should a small hole be drilled on each end of the crack before the tig welding process?

yeah my engine builder is a buddy of mine that builds alot of race engines i his garage. should of had the block before i started. pulled motor out tonight. crack is pritty bad.

for the cost of a block, I would scrap that thing and get a 5.3 iron block bored out so you can have an iron LS1. Or the 6.0 is a mighty tempting idea too, would certainly give you a little better spool and bottom end. I suppose its more of a cost question for you. I know you can buy 5.3 blocks for peanuts though, that way you could keep the 6.0 in the truck. Old block would be worth keeping around for a mock-up piece.

Wow, that really sucks. How much of a pain is it to pull the motor?

I think this is the perfect chance to steal the lq9 from that old chevy and drop in the big ugly carbureted rat motor in it that it needed all along. :flipoff2:

You can always clean it up real good and jb weld it just make sure it is aluminum jb weld

motors are swaped. 6.0 will run today. i think i have a block for the ls1, so the 62 will get the ls1. i think each motor will be happy in there new homes. 6.0 will handle the boost better and ls1 will look good in the ratted 62. i am happy with that choice. wife will be much cooler with a ls1 in her truck rather than a cast iron 6.0.
