NC OHV license plate, spinoff thread...

I finally got a reply back from my local State Representative. His response is quoted below...

Thank you for your email, Rob. I am sorry to be tardy in getting back with you. I have introduced special license plate bills in the past and did so again in the 2009 session, but the bill was put on hold and incorporated in a study bill to examine whether North Carolina needs to continue to issue special plates. The committee will look as such issues as a common background, whether they should include visitnc.com on them, and other items. I hope there will be further guidance when we re-convene session next May.

So, it looks like its at a stand still right now until the State can decide what to do with the special interestes plates in the future.

We'll keep on truckin' until we hit a dead end

Hey guys, just because I got the above response from Marian, thats no reason to stop sending e-mails

Keep them coming. I'm stockpiling them for some leverage in my future talks with our representatives :)

E-mail sent. I'll take 3

If THIS can be a plate then I don't see why it would be hard to get a national forest, URE, or some other 4WD plate made with proceeds going towards the state.

I mean really.. srsly.. WATERMELON? It is $10 more and does not have any money going to any foundation.

Although, they DO have this plate.. which I think I will choose this time to replace my BRP tag.

My custom tag is one of the new ones. The letters are flat and in blue. From a distance it looks the same but when you get up close it does indeed look fake. I felt like I got shafted!

I've reached a stall with my local rep on this one.

He said NC is looking to do away with all of these types of plates so putting another one on the floor for vote is useless until they decide the outcome of "special" plates in NC

However, this was from my last conversation with him, which was not very recent. I'll follow up with him and see where its at.

I wonder why? They seem like a great way to draw revenue. I have seen ALOT of the Blue Ridge Parkway plates, and at $20 a plate being donated to the foundation.. that HAS to help.

Maybe it has something to do with they don't look like NC plates, that you can't easily identify which state is which anymore. Does any other states offer special plates like these? I wouldn't/don't know.

Watermelon tag, HONKY

Ohhhh! lol First time I've seen that.

yea college leaves you way too much time on your hands

i guess i should contribute to the thread id buy one of those that say first in forestry i like that one, i also like the idea of tread lightly but i think sfwda would be more fitting and people would actually relate, but tread lightly would make people wonder and might get some people looking, plus it would attract the attention on some environmentalist i would think.

None yet. I haven't followed up like I should have. But, it shouldn't be a problem to check on it this week and see what we come up with.
