NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

The best thing about hunting doves in nov./dec. is all of the birds are grown up and fat, much more meat and better eating than the many young ones shot on opening day.I try to not shoot small, young birds w short tails but almost everyone else shoots them where I've been hunting for a decade.

You thinking to much... see bird shoot... miss bird repeat until you get your limit. But I do handy cap myself and use a double barrel. I swear dove shooting can be harder than duck, goose, quail, pheasant, grouse( well not grouse they are fighter planes in the woods).

Yeah I don't pick birds in the dove field. If it's a dove and in range, it gets shot at

They weren't flying for us...only got ~15 between 9 people!

Well we attempted our first hunt on our own land. We shot at about 15 different birds. Killed 6. Saw around 34 to 38 in total (we were keeping a tally to see if we would see anything).

Doesn’t sound like much, but I consider it a success. We learned A TON and will do it much different next year.

I got there @ 530 and lots of hunters were already set up.I took my chair and hustled to find a good spot.I came back to my truck and moved it further down the side of the field to be closer to my chair. I grabbed my cooler and heavy duffel bag of shells and headed to the chair.I took about 10 steps into the field and hit some slop from the flood they had this week.My left leg went down so deep I fell forward dropping my stuff and landing on my right knee. I stiffened my ankle trying not to loose the boot put it came off.It hurt bad and I thought I broke my big toe .It took a minute but I got my foot back in the boot and pulled it out. Then I backtracked and went around the slop.Foots all jacked up and I was hobbling around picking up the birds.

You guys did much better than my group. I did a $125 per person paid hunt. Between 4 of us we killed 0 birds. 7 birds was the highest total for a single person I heard of. I don't think I seen enough birds to limit out. We're going back this evening, hoping it will be better.

^ that’s rough.

We went back at 5 and finished out our limit and my buddies wife got 9.

People said they stopped from 11 -2:30 but were still flying steady when we left for dinner.

My wife let about 20 quail get out this evening. Waited till dark-ish and snipe hunted with nets. Still got birds in the field for tomorrow's hunt and this time, I'm thinking 12 gauge!

I’ve had quail get outta my pins before. Them ass holes are hard to catch and put back in

Probably came after the local lake flooded, maybe some of our guns made their way out from the bottom of the lake too.

You know some kid got his ass beat when he lost that thing 50yrs ago
Found it on family land, that kid may have been a relative!

Don’t swallow any pellets when you eat them.

I did something I never did before this opening day.I used a skeet choke and shot Surshot heavy dove #6.Before I used IC and mod. chokes shooting #7.5 and 8s. I hit some birds way out and high ones too. When I cleaned the birds I noticed the 6s passed through all of the birds.

The birds look rough from the dog picking them up, I swear half the feathers end up in his mouth.

Saturday we were shooting my reloaded #6s with 20ga.

I didn’t have enough time and under estimated how much we shot and ran out Saturday. Ended up at Walmart and all they had left was #8 skeet loads. I WILL NOT HUNT WITH THOSE AGAIN. To many birds we rolled and they’d hit the ground and jump up and fly off low to the ground when the dog got to them. I know they will die from those shots but I don’t like crippling birds.
