NC4x4 v4.0

New features look great - at least what can see from the screen shots. So, "watched threads" is == "subscribed"? Took me a while to find them in Tapatalk as "Favorites" but we can all adapt.
.
what's the little symbol next to the latest thread box? You're getting there with the tire tracks, maybe small tires or steering wheels - just trying to think of things in "theme".
.
On colors, the current shades of blue seem fine, no need to call out the highlites with another color imho. Rounded corners don't bug me as much. Can you have multiple themes the member can pick from? A brown-ish or green-ish or orange-ish (couldn't help it...) to individualize it a bit. :)

Yeah, watched threads == subscribed. I never used subscribed threads in vB, but find myself doing it all the time w/the new software.

The little icon next to the Latest Thread is an RSS icon for the feed for that forum.

I got search working. How about this?

And this?

Looks good. Love RSS, hardly go directly to the forum unless I'm trying to see "my" unread posts vs. "latest". Still think the out of the box colors are trying to do too much, like the tan to highlight the current page and user search - darker/lighter shades of blue?

Cn anyone give me a quick tutorial on how to use RSS?

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" - syndication of news, articles, events, etc. that fit nicely into a "item with a name, description, and a link to the real article" type format.
.
It's the standard way of making website content available to folks without having to visit the website itself just to know what's new. You don't use it directly, rather you use a RSS-reader that takes lots of contents from lots of websites and let's you decide how to arrange all that in a way that you find useful. Rather than click on tons of links to websites, you let the news come to you and click on those things that look interesting - and then see the actual article on the website from which it originated (or some can let you look at it in the reader itself).
.
I happen to use something called Netvibes.com, but there are lots of examples including MyYahoo, Google Reader (which are themselves websites); Internet Explorer, Firefox add-ins, Outlook plug-ins, etc. (which are things you install); iPhone apps like MobileRSS or Zite (which doesn't advertise itself as a RSS reader at all, but works with Google reader); the list goes on and on...
.
Hope that helps!

Thanks,
I guess i didn't ask the right qustion. I get the basic concept, but Ive never managed to get google reader (or others) to actually successfully pull anyting in.

And to be honest never put enough time in to figure it out.

LOL, well I do tend to try and explain the obvious sometimes and miss the subtle point...
.
Try netvibes.com. Once you setup an account (free) you'll be able to add your own content, one way is to put in an RSS url. The one for the General forum is: http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=27
.
You can find RSS url's anywhere you see the RSS symbol lit up - hence why I liked them where they're placed in v4, since there seem to be more of them and easier to find.

Assuming all goes well, we should be on the new software starting on Saturday.

It's going to take a few weeks to get everything back up near 100%, but the big stuff is all in place and working as it should.

If you check in on Saturday and the new stuff comes up, be aware that the server has to do a lot of work to get everybody's account migrated over, so it might be a little sluggish for the first few days.

Unacceptable. We expect instant and perfect results the first time.

Another sneak peek of the color scheme. I think it's getting better:

NC4X4 is awesome, no complaints there.

But I gotta say, the little chat balloons and colors look a little :gay: Whatcha got in a O.D. Green?

Not a big fan of the rounded corners but I will get used to it.

Anyway, I appreciate all the hard work, thanks for all you do.

Takes some gettin used to but I like it... And apparently I received 4 trophies?!?

Yeah, it has "trophies" for making posts and stuff. The old software had something similar, but we never turned it on. This one... I never turned it off.

I dig it! It'll take some getting used to but so far so good!

Hey, I work in IT and all in all, this seems like it went pretty well. The little stuff can be worked out over the weeks, what counts is it's all here and working! Thanks!

Check out the garage while you can! Guns and bewbers!

Yeah, it tries to import the permission settings from the old software, but it doesn't work quite the same way.

A few extra minutes to locate some buttons I'm used to seeing on the right that are now on the left... but I think Shawn did a good job with the colors/layout. ;)

I still think we should have gone with the pink.... <shrug>

A couple of quick pointers/new features/etc:

GO CLICK THE MARK ALL FORUMS READ BUTTON! Or rather, go read everything you want to read for right now, then go click it when you're done. The software keeps track of what you've read and haven't read, so the next time you click on a thread, it takes you straight to the first unread post.

LIKE THIS POST! Little 'like' buttons on everything, just like facetubes.

FOLLOW OTHER USERS! You can 'follow' somebody else, then all their activity shows up in your personal news feed... kinda like facetubes.

WATCH THIS THREAD! Used to be called "subscribed threads"... I never used it before, but I like the way this one works.

More as I think of them...
