Hi everyone, hope all is having a great day!
I've been doing some research and just want some opinions from someone who might have this type of setup and get some input before I go doing it.
I was going to wire in a really GOOD dedicated circuit for my welder to get the most out of it...(more like get more out of it than I ever have according to what I've been reading).
I have plenty of 10/2 and 10/3 wire laying around, several 20amp outlets, a 20amp spare breaker and it's for my Lincoln 140. I've read that by putting it on it's own dedicated circuit with 220 wire (10/2) and using 20amp outlet AND some say a 30 amp breaker (others say stick with 20amp breaker).
I have the 10/2 wire, I have the 20 amp outlets (i think they have 25amp outlets too?) and just need to know what size breaker I can safely use...20 or 30amp?

I'm fixing to switch my welder very soon to Gas MIG setup and been reading with .35 wire and gas with the above mentioned wiring, it can really put out the full 140amps to really get the most out of it. Up to this point, on a dedicated regular 110 circuit with 20amp breaker and whatever factory housing 110wire was used, I have never been able to weld on the highest heat setting for more than like 12seconds or so LOL (I know sucks) but have managed with next one down or for while now been using .30 wire. I do remember thought for those 10seconds it did burn pretty hot until it tripped breakers.
Thank you for your help/advise and sorry for long post. Have a blessed day

Arent you renting a home?
Don't go doing illegal electrical work (hint the fact that you have to ask these questions makes it apparen't you aren't a licensed electrician ) in another man's property.

Damn, this shit never ends.

It infuriates me that you repeatedly drop "have a blessed day" in regards to questions about intentionally hurting someone else. (The landlord)

Well the nameplate says for use on 20 amp circuit, so I would stay with a 20 amp breaker. The gauge of wire is both dependant on the amperage needed and how far the run is. Plenty of graphs online to show how far a gauge of wire can safely carry x amount of amps.

No. But I do know your previous landlord and the damage done....

I also know the laws regarding performing electrical work without a license in NC...and the risks....

I'll keep my crap to myself when you keep your stupidity to yourself.

I'm not an electrician but I wouldn't put a 20amp receptacle on a 30amp breaker.

The breaker protects the circuit. If the outlet or wiring is rated for less than the breaker the breaker can't protect the circuit (at least thats how I understand electrical systems work)

I'll help.
210.21.b exception 2 applies specifically to welders on a 120v 30a circuit in a resident application......

Yo @marty79 , @Ron is not only a landlord, he has an electrical engineering degree to boot.
I have picked his brain on issues like this and heeded his advice. Dude knows his shit, trust me.

Smarty pants. Quoting code and nonsense like that...

Just when we thought John Fuller was all growed up.

What's the over/under for him wanting out of his lease early because he quit his job and wants to move to TN? If it's 10 mos, I'll take under.

I don't doubt that he is..I could care less, no need to be a smart ass about it and rude to call people out on stuff that he hasn't a clue about. There's a nice way to tell someone an answer and then there's the "I'm a certified know-it-all prick who is old enough to tell some younger fella he's an illegal dummy" without knowing his scenario and qualifications (which isn't none of his business anyways).

If me standing up for myself against arrogant know it all is not grown up....well so be it, good thing I'm not here for brownie points with internet trolls. If u haven't noticed, I speak my mind when needed unlike most others who keep things to themselves.
And this is why and how we end up with this "john fuller" threads....I politely ask a question and get bashed on..then I respond in defense and I'm not grown up??:lol::lol:

Thank u @YotaOnRocks and @Stuntman Autoworks ...you answered my question.

Btw @Ron , u forgot I built a shop in Boone passed inspection and all just for your "legality" bs

Now I'm gonna go and perform an illegal unconstitutional act of atrocity and replace a broken light bulb......bahahahaha

Although I'm proud of the progress you've made, what's absurd is you not heeding the advice of people that give it to you. Especially on a matter as serious as electricity.

Does one place the ban hammer in the oven to heat it, or in a forge, or does the hammer have a built-in heating element? Do you just plug the ban hammer into a wall outlet like a soldering iron?
This is intriguing, I'm so full of questions about hammer warming... :D
Your next.
