New Fees at Mtn City

Bring the wife, more than likely she will take the last chance to use the toilet vs popping a squat in the woods.

Have you seen the bathrooms? My wife would rather use the woods. I'm not kidding, she has. Hopefully this will change.

I see your point but I think 5$ a passenger would be more reasonable.

I agree.

She told me last Sunday she turned in $600 which was more than ronnie turned in on July 4th which they did a big fireworks and had lots of people there.

I due hope she makes money and succeeds. I'd love to see that place get better. Maybe better maps as well. For that matter next time I go I'm going to offer to fix/repair/upgrade something. I have a bunch of construction experience, your either part of the problem or part of the solution.

I wonder how much money they've lost due to people riding without paying. I would think that's the bigger issue. I hope it gets straightened out. I'd have not problem paying the fees if it was as clean as Crawfords was when Steve Crawford ran it.

Right on Matt
It seems like raising the fee to 15 bucks a rig/atv would be enough:confused: adding passenger fees just seems like someone seeing dollars signs at our expense.
You just can't beat 35$ A YEAR at Harlan. No camping/passenger fees. I have family and friends that come with me every time and spend multiple days so the extra $ adds up quick.

Its difficult to compare Harlan to Mt. City.

Mt. City is 100% private, Harlan is managed and governed by the county. So, they get the opportunity to cash in on govt. grants, etc. for the park.

So, $35 per year at Harlan is a great deal, but revenue is generated by other outside sources, which greatly helps to keep the fees low for riders. Mt. City is 100% private, all funds come from camping and riding, so expect it to be a little pricier

???? I was there July 4th weekend and there were only two or three other camp sites occupied and we brought our own fireworks. I thought the campgroud was unusually vacant for a holiday weekend. I can't speak for all who came and went for a day trip but the trails were also pretty vacant.

Everyone should get a sticker or ribbon showing the ride date when they pay for their day pass. This should be displayed in plain view at all times like we do at Uwharrie. Anonymity of tresspassers is not possible then. We as the paying public could help shame the non-payers into being responsible citizens. Yes, it will cost the park a little bit more to pass out day passes, but if they turn one non-paying driver into a paying driver they will probably pay for a month's supply of passes.

Non payers might also be reduced if the entrance to the trails was situated such that it made it necessary to go through a gate positioned next to the ticket shack. This would reduce the number of people that forget to pay when they park their tow rigs before buying the tickets...

Crozet doesn't have any off this. However it's generally a private park with 2 "open rides" a year. On the open days it's the responsibility of the trail guides to ensure everybody pays on their trail ride. We want our park to get better.

Again the fees are $25 to join. Then $25/day and $40/weekend. No camping fee for primative camping. No rider fee. Everybody signs a waiver.

They have a "braggers rights" small racing series and members can come anytime as long as there are at least 2 vehicles and they get approval from the owner. I have never seen anybody turned down.

Oh yeah, do they actually have insurance for the facility and the correct EPA permits, etc? Not that it really matters to me as an individual, but I'd be interested to know

YES from what I can tell. Anita said they had a foersty guy there this week....

I still need to see about the passenger fee's I've emailed and been trying to call for 2 days now and she doesn't answer. The website doesn't say anything about new rates.

I usually bring along people since I have free seats and I like to introduce people to the sport. At $15 per day per passenger I won't be able to convince my wife to go along with me anymore since she didn't really care at all. I won't be able to invite random friends along unless they are really interested since now they'll be paying $30 for a weekend sitting in the passenger seat.

The worst part is my wife will use this as an excuse to go shopping instead and that will set me back more then the $15 lol

Charge per vehicle, one fee for quads and one fee for jeeps etc. Simple enough and if you need to pay insurance per passenger then set the passenger fee just high enough to cover it.

Truth is those trails aren't worth $45 a day.

$15 per pass or driver
$11 for kids

Can you tell me what else you can do for $45 for 24 hours? Beleive it or not these fees are set to cover insurance...Price insurance for this type thing.

Guys I understand this increase hurts, it hurts my money too(me, gf, 3 boys...my trip got uo there too).... DO some math. IT'S STILL CHEAPER THAT ANOTHER 4 HOUR DRIVE TO ANOTHER PLACE IN THE LONG RUN. Give this a little time. They have adjusted rates by the number of people that PAID. How many didn't pay that we that pay are now having too??? Please be understanding and give her some time to adjust these out, She has stated they are set for the holiday weekend and will be looked at afterwards....

Not calling anyone out. Complaining amongst yourselves or on an open forum is the norm. But If you are calling and harassing the land owners daughter about a slight fee increase, you need a swift kick in the jewels... Wakeup people i have been wheeling all over the country for 19 years and i can assure you that there will not be many places to stay open with all these negitive nancys, pissing and moaning to the land owner... We already have enough problems coming from outside the OHV comunity against are hobby. All it takes is the owner to get pissed and then shut down the park and sell it off.. So please positive reinforcement for the new management.... Give her time to figure things out.. It will take some time but if things stay positive it will work out for everyone.

Thanks

I talked to her, i don't know why people are saying that calling her is harrasing I can only assume you are talking about other people. It's only natural to call a business to verify what the rates will be when you are planning a trip and the up to date information isn't on the website.

Heres what I got so perhaps it saves someone else from having to call.

These are just OHV, I didn't ask about ATV's because I don't have one and this trip my wife wants to camp in Boone so I didn't ask about camping rates either.

$15 per adult
$11 per kid
$free for 3 year old kid

Not sure what the cut off is for free, she mentioned that a 7 year old would be $11.

Your right.. Not calling anyone out.. just don't want people beating a dead horse... and aggravating the issue... thanks. pj

AMEN

I doubt the new management is raising the prices to help us out. Its to make money. I am all about people making a buck but this is just too much of an increase :shaking: I could care less about the shiney new toilets and fireworks. I go there to wheel and enjoy the trails with family and friends. If they make a killing over Labor day then the price won't change.

Yes I am moaning and whining because I like the place and it just seems like somebody sees dollar signs.

It all depends really, do I think the current trails are worth $30-45 a day? No not for one jeep. I don't use any of the other things they have there I just come for trail riding.

I can be positive though and hope they'd just flat rate all OHV's the same no matter how many passengers. If you aren't driving you aren't taking up space on the trail and you aren't doing any damage to them either.

Thats not anti-mtn city, I'd think that makes the most sense for any OHV park. my little lifted jeep with 31" wheels and my family isn't going to be doing the same amount of trail modification as someone with 44" tires and great gearing riding alone yet I may pay 2-3x the price for the same amount of wheels on the ground. I don't suggest though that they pay more then I do but that I shouldn't pay more then them either.

PLEASE PLEASE stop the fees questioning for now. Turtle has been there for a couple of hours today. They understand our concern with the fee increases. They are adressing this daily. PLEASE everyone stop calling to conplian about the fees. They are working 12-14 hour days to keep this place open for us. There is money beening reinvested into the park and it is already showing, please see the rebirth theard.

I think there's plenty to answer the general questions here and now Turtlemechanic has started a new thread with more info. and photos.
