How do you guys feel about it?
I personally don't have a problem with gay people at all, but I don't believe that they should be allowed to marry.....
I don't believe God intended marriage this way....Now I understand, lots of things are not intended the way God did, but this is huge.

Do you think this will help or hurt obama in this upcoming election? because really, if you were already gay and have voted, your gonna vote democrat anyways....

I think obama just wanted the attention of the news back on him..

he knows he is loosing and needs to grab at whatever demographic he can to get votes.. he will say and do anything to get re elected.. you watch more stuff will be said before November

Judging by the massive loss it took here 2 days ago, it proved that the people that vote are against it. I think it will hurt him, (thankfully). It's not like he hasn't done enough to get ousted though. This just adds to it in my opinion. I'll be glad when he's gone.

Didnt suprise me a bit.It would have, however suprised me if he said he was against it,esp considering Bidens daughters gay.In some regards this country would be alot better off if everybody thought the way we do in the south.

While I'm not at all surprised he is a supporter, it is a little surprising that he so frankly said "yes I support gay marriage". During the election it was intentionally kept softer, like "I believe in equal rights, inlcudin ga civil union" but cleverly avoiding saying "marriage" b/c its such a loaded word.
i'd think that taking such a definitive left-sided stance at this point would be more of a hindrance than a help.

I think Biden speaking up about it forced Obama's hand. I don't think he had any intention of addressing this before November. I'd say this will hurt him as more than half the states have voted against it.

<soapbox>

Here's the way I see it. Had he come out in support of it BEFORE Tuesday, I'd say he was supporting the cause and trying to build awareness of the issue prior to some very well publicized primary elections. Coming the day after it was defeated in a pretty key state such as NC, especially with the Dem convention coming here in Charlotte, I see it as a power play to garner back his Super PAC money that was being withheld due to his lack of a stance. Seems pretty self-serving based purely on the timing.

I personally am getting sick and tired of hearing about protest after protest of the Amendment. It was VERY cut and dry. They put the vote out there, one side had more votors in favor then the other side had against. It passed. Now deal with it - but instead we have some douchbag congressman from Conn. now wants a protest at the Dem convention and gay people are being urged to go apply for a marriage license only to be rejected and not leave until they get one or get arrested. What the ?!?!?! It was illegal before, just now it's in the state constitution (and it will take a while for that since the Sec of State has to verify the vote and write it in). And now all the sudden they want to clog up lines for legitimate marriage licenses just to protest what they didn't win. Suck it up. Deal with it. These people remind me of the little kid on the playground who didn't like something and he's taking his football and going home. Worst of all this is an elected representative urging people to protest as they are. It was the same democratic process that got you voted into office that you are challenging with your dumb-ass protest. Are you saying that just because the person you voted for doesn't win the election, you now are justified in protesting against the winner? Nothing would ever get done.

I know I voted!:usa:

Thank you. People like the voting process until their side looses.

How in the fawk did they think it would be passed in NC if it got shot down in CA, the most liberal state in the country? I could see getting their panties in a wad if NC were the last state to not allow same sex marriage but c'mon; is it really that big of a surprise to the rest of the country it didn't pass?

I'm about tired that every major election year, the majority of issues are personal choices that the .gov shouldn't be involved in to begin with, plus it dominates the media coverage and stinks to high heaven of a smoke and mirror show. What happened to separation of church and state? You want to blow dudes, then marry them, fuck if I care, go find a church that will do that.

Goddammit, now I'm all pissed off again.

Asheville probably provided a large portion of the Gay vote. Never seen so many freaks in one NC town.
The fact that the Dem National Convention is going to be held in a state that just denounced their platform brings me great satisfaction.

Have you never been to Chapel hill or it's neighbor, Carrborro????

The counties that had majority vote AGAINST the amendment were all counties that house major Colleges (Buncombe, Watauga, Orange, Wake, Durham, etc).

That said, I didn't vote FOR or AGAINST, because I knew it was going to be a shit show afterwards. Plus, historically, all these types of amendments have PASSED by a pretty extreme amount (average around 70% FOR). And its not just a southern thing. Many Midwestern states have voted for, and of course California has.

Chapel hill is for the respectable queers that want careers! Ashville is where all the lazy bum queers hang out. Both vote Dem for sure, you just have to bus the Ashville ones to the poll and then give them some free rubbers. Sorry if my direct verbage offends, but they are not acceptable in God's eyes. I am not voting against what God clearly states is wrong. It can be forgiven but you have to denounce it and turn away from it just like all sin.

BTW... My son and my money go to NC State!

I'm sorry, but that's retarded. Not voting just b/c you think its going to be a landslide or you don't think you'll like the result is just telling everybody you don't care about your rights and therefor your opinion dosn't matter. Only reason to not vote is if you really don't have any opinion either way.

Not voting = giving up your bitching rights.

So from this point forward I'm ignoring anything you say on the matter.

You do understand the difference between the OLD Testament and the NEW testament, dont you? OT was before Jesus with all the man made Jewish laws added. New Testament was durring and after Jesus, lots of changes. If you have any more questions about not eating shrimp according to the Bible... Just PM me so you dont say anything else that ignorant in a public forum.

Winner.

Yup... better that we argue about this, or abortion, or Romney's dog, than the fact the gov is overspending by a couple million bucks *a minute*.

Did you know the phrase seperation of church and state is not mentioned in the US constitution?

Correct, but the phrase "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" was added to the Declaration by Jefferson as a direct reference to Locke. Jefferson also referred frequently to a "wall of separation between church and state", again referencing Locke, but that's more or less where the phrase originated. Just because those words aren't there, doesn't mean that's not what the first amendment means.
