Opinions on civil rights question...please

Alright so my girlfriend worked at this japanese resturaunt for about 2 months, this was a place that i introduced her to and she started eating there atleast 5-6 times a week(lol) but anyway finally the owner(an asian woman) offered her a job...part time just for some extra cash...she started working there and helped out a lot...she was the perfect employee, never late, never called out, never asked for more money, never complained and always did what the owner needed her to do...well about two weeks ago she was fired because the owner said that she couldnt afford to keep her around and my gf felt bad and even offered to help out for free...but the owner said no...we went in there the other night an she hired 3 new asian girls and has no one of any other race working there...probably in her family but still is this right? i just dont think so but would like more opinions...thanks

To be honest I would just go eat somewhere else ...

if you GF really likes the people then she will just chauk it up to family comes first.. and I would do the same if my family needed a job..

oh i agree i would to...my family comes first also...what bothers me is that these girls are in there in name brand clothing, nails done, jewelry all over, and then there rude and half the time sitting around...idk just annoying...foods to good to pass up though lol...im not racist by any means i just feel like even if it was family if this was the other way around it would be a huge deal...

To answer your question..yes family first whatever...if this would have happened in a white owned resturant to a minority server..you can bet your ass the good Revs. Sharpton and Jackson would be down there ready to pimp their people for some retributions or at least free publicity.
 
imho businesses (esp. small ones) can easily work around this.

-oh business was slow.... but then it picked back up, and i needed to hire 3 people asap. and they just walked in..
-oh I wasn't happy with her performance.
-huuuu.. you crazy white girl no work hard.. And I no like to speak engresh.. You leave now....
 
A small business owner can fire you for any reason or no reason at all.

Me? I'd tell the GF to get off her lazy ass and get a real job.

I think when you own a private company, you should be able to hire and fire who you'd like, especially when it comes to family (but I don't assume that is the case here necessarily).
 
I disagree. Right is right, wrong is wrong. to me it's that simple.
If, and not saying what you say isn't true, what you say is true then she has a legit grip.
Was she paying taxes on this or was it under the table?
If she was working legally, then a trip to the ESC will lead her to what she should do.
There are laws in place that protect from just such things.
Have someone call there as another employer and ask for a reference. If real serious about it, have another prospective employer call, someone you know, and there is a witness to:
Either giving info that is unlawful, or
Telling them nothing was wrong with your (her) performance

The biggest issue with this is.. that the are a Food company and he/she like to eat the food..

I would not bitch about them to someone and then go back and try to eat there you may never know what is in your food..

thats what i was thinking...thanks for the advice and yes she was paying taxes...

don't matter, like he said, they can fire at will. In their view, right to work means you have the right to work where ever you want, as long as it ain't here...
That said, ethically it wasn't right, IMHO. Legally? meh...

It just about impossible to get any kinda conviction on this. Its easy to get a ton of bad press, but any legal action, NA.

You have to PROVE (to a jury of 12) that she was let go only because of her race.


I mean its wrong.
It sucks.
I probably wouldnt eat there on principal.
But not much you can do for it.

Quite honestly, I say Move on and forget about it... for the most part everyone goes thru several jobs. Tell her to be a big girl and go get another job so she can buy you truck parts :D

lol...buy me truck parts? but that would mean she would have to actually support my addiction lol...but seriously shes just gonna drop it...those jobs are a dime a dozen anyway and she didnt really need it plus that food was the shizzzzyyy
