Hopefully not, but that is what it appears....

Traded a gun to Steve, I gave him an AR-15 in exchange for a pistol and some cash, he has yet to finish paying on the cash end of the deal. He still owes me $100, he was supposed to send it via paypal, I didn't feel like he would be the type to rip someone off, but after telling him my paypal address via PM, he has been on here a few times, but has yet to respond to any PM's (I send him one a day), I even called him today, left a message with no response. It has been a week, so he's had plenty of time, if he didn't have the money and needed to wait and send it to me next week or something I would be fine with that, but when there is no response for such a long time when I know he has seen the PM's, that gives me the feeling he's not really planning to pay...

I know he is a police sargent (I think in Valdese), sold him an AR a few months ago, so I didn't think there would be any issues this time, but apparently I was wrong.

Does anyone know him that might could tell him to at least let me know what is going on and why he is not paying?

Hate to hear this, especially, from a small town! I know you don't want to be a Squealer, but his Chief, might be interested, in what's he doing with a AR, & where he got the pistol from. Hope it wasn't police/county property!

Why would his chief care about where he got the guns from or what he's doing with them? Neither are any of his business. It's not as if they are illegal, and aside from not paying up the 100 bucks, there's nothing shady about them.

I heard he said something about your mama.

Big difference between crooked cop and guy who doesn't pay his debt.

Unless you told him he didn't have to pay as long as he let you slide on some tickets in exchange for the balance of the gun, then shit gets serious.

Yes, I know a 'crooked' cop normally takes part in illegal activities such as drugs, taking bribes, etc. One would still be considered a 'crook' for not paying a debt, it is really no different than stealing.

And if I had told him he didn't have to pay, I doubt I'd be posting this here... If he told me he could get me out of any future tickets I might would get, sure, I might would waive the $100.

Guess thats what I get for being trusting, I've shipped things to people before I even got money for them (one person on here, one person on carolina shooters forum), granted, items were about $50 each after shipping, so I wouldn't have been out much if they hadn't paid. It just irks me when people do crap like this, never would I have expected it from a police officer, especially one I had met in person and talked to...

I only meant the thread title had me expecting more.

Hope you get what your owed.

Michael, you're a pretty reasonable guy, but I agree with XJFreak, your thread title is a little misleading. The fact that he's a cop is really irrelevant here, you're implying alot more than may be fair. JMHO.
Hope he pays up and it gets resolved.

edit: ignore this post ;-)

I had no problem with the crooked cop title. Of all people, police officers should be worthy of your trust whether in or out of uniform. The responsibility they hold due to their job alone demands that they hold themselves to a higher standard. If a cop isn't trustworthy in his personal dealings, how can he ever be expected to be so in his professional duties, including testifying in court?

If that's the case, why not just respond to the repeated attempts to contact him and say so?

I liked the first thread title... It's on it's 3rd...4th title now?

what were the terms discussed at the time of the transaction?

Yeah, no reply is the worst thing someone can do. Just say it will be a few days, give me an exact day you will pay, and keep your word. No reply at all is an insult to me.

x2

No reply when you can see he has logged on = dodging you because he doesn't want to pay. It takes seconds to type, 'hey man, going to be a few days before I will have your money, I get paid on xx day'.

That sucks Michael.
Good luck collecting your debt.

maybe his pay day is this friday not last friday ( you said it has been a week )

Why should this make a difference? A gun isn't something you NEED, its something you WANT. If the guy is living paycheck to paycheck while purchasing a gun from somebody....someone needs a little more financial restraint IMO.

If karma comes back at me for something and only takes $100, then I won't complain much, that said, I don't believe in 'karma'...

Regardless of when he gets paid, as was said above, either say WHEN he can pay via PM, or he shouldn't have bought it if he couldn't pay for it...
Krama can be a Bitch. I am a true believer in Her...

I'm glad to see you are running me in the ground Michael. If I am not mistaken, I talked to Michael last Thursday evening. I asked him about a possible trade for his rifle. I then sent him a picture of the pistol (that was purchased with a pistol permit from dealer) in question of trading. I talked to him a little while later about the transaction. Michael stated he would, with some cash his way. I told him what I was asking for the pistol and he come up with the price difference of $230.00. I said ok, and I would call him when I was on my way on Friday morning. I called to meet Michael on Friday morning and met with him. Michael looked at the pistol and I looked at the AR. I asked, What do I owe you? Michael said $230.00. I paid him and left. About 20 minutes up the road I received a phone call from Michael saying he made a mistake and he needed $100.00 more. I don't think it is right to be bashed by someone who made a mistake. It was not my fault he made the deal, he told me the price, and that is what I paid him. Mods please take care of this Defamation of Character.

Yes, that is all true, BUT you knew I was asking $550 for the gun, so you were as wrong as I was. I already allowed you $220 for your pistol which is more than it's worth (can be bought new for $200), but I'm not really complaining about that. I called you and mentioned that I miscalculated literally less than 5 minutes after we traded, you AGREED that we both made the mistake on the phone. I asked if you did not want to trade then I could meet you on your way back through town (from the dixie gun show) and we could trade back, you said no, you 'were not that kind of guy', and would just pay the $100 via paypal, I gave you the benefit of the doubt and assumed you would. To re-state, you AGREED that you owed $330 and not $230, because $330 cash + $220 gun = $550, it was just AFTER you had paid $230, you shouldn't have AGREED to it if you didn't want to pay it. plus, like I said before, you KNEW it was $550 to begin with. I don't know what I was thinking when I told you $230, either you KNEW that only added up to $450 and were trying to cheat me, or you didn't think about it either (gonna hope for the latter)

If you just took it upon yourself that you wanted to keep the gun and $100 in your pocket, you should have at least PM'd me a response and said you decided you didn't feel the need to pay. That would have been better than nothing at all, I still don't understand why you couldn't respond. PLUS, I told you that I was going to post publicly on NC4x4 if you did not respond, I mentioned that via text message AND PM, so I am sure you got it.

Pay up $100 and this can all be deleted, you have my paypal address already, whats the deal?
