Are there any options for a phone for a kid that can only call certain phone numbers and can only receive calls from certain numbers and has no ability to have data?

Background is as a busy family we are going in all directions when the kids have activities. Some activities are not consistent when they end my oldest having a phone to be able to call and say “I am done come pick me up” could save me sitting in the parking lot for an hour some weeks.

I honestly don't know if there are phones like that, but if there aren't someone could make a killing! At least the parents that don't want their children exposed to all kinds of dangers and predators out there would be interested in a phone like this, some other parents just hand them a phone at age 10 and say go wild!

A guy I work with, he and his wife bought their 12 year old a phone, he can call them and get text messages from them, and not much else. I can double check where he got it.

I would bet that there could be an app out there to hamstring a smartphone.

I was very nervous and apprehensive about the girls getting a phone at 12. But that was 10 yrs ago.

These different steps in parenting are always stressful. But y'all are awesome parents.

Tinsley is a super responsible girl. I'm confident if you give her parameters she would obey them.

Recently, I had a Verizon phone I no longer needed, & couldn't trade it at AT&T. Was going to post here, but ask family members if anyone needed it. Sis told me to turn it into Best Buy, & they donated them to Women's Domestic Violence. Well Best buy never heard of it. Actually they did years back. Then I went to Verizon, & ask them. Same story, they no longer do that. I was about to toss it in one of those cash for phone boxes, but thought about Good Will. YES, they do take them. But many employees don't know that! A Manager overheard me & the employee, & corrected the employee.

We bought our 11-year old a Gizmo watch, can call specified numbers, only receive specified numbers, can message too..works well.
These are awesome , my kids are getting them soon. had a boy take a nasty spill on his bicycle a couple weeks ago. he was a new kid so we didn't know anything about him he said he could call his dad and mom Via the watch. it also has GPS so all he had to say was come get me and they pulled right up to our house.

how old?

My kids both had Gizmo watches. my son got his when he was 8 and now that he is 13 we switched him to an iphone with heavy monitoring tools on it, my daughter got her gizmo when she was 8 and at 11 still wears it.

the gizmo you can only use to call, text to the numbers you allow and you as the parent control what numbers are allowed. you can all set things like babysitter, parent, friend. we allow both kids to have 2 friends they can call. wear like a watch tell time, track your steps and call parents when needed.. they have been a life saver with out being forced into a cell phone to young
