Dieselwhale come up with the idea. combine a goose neck trailer with a pop-up camper. Have the pop-up camper sucured to the front of trailer near goose neck to where it pops open off of the sides. then you have room to pull your rig up on the trailer. add some stabilizers to the trailer and generator ect. and you have a sweet deal. my question is how would register/tag it. for instance a pop-up camper is considered a trailer with sleeping quarters, would this be the same, ideas? This link is kinda what i was going for, but not on very top like shttp://www.offroad.no/garage/3706/img/29285.jpgo.

I would probably get the trailer registered/tagged before I added the popup. I have thought about doing this exact same thing. Only problem is finding a popup that is small enough to sit sideways across the trailer without paying a ton for it.

well the idea has been around for a long time..

as for registration.. you register the trailer as a trailer and the pop up as a pop up..

unless they are secured together and can not be easily taken apart they are 2 different items

The pop up wouldn't have to be registered. No different than hauling a car or truck on your trailer. Only the trailer that hauls both the pop up and the rig.

Something to think about, if kids are going think about how far off the ground you end up being off the ground. Instead of 3 ft more like 6ft or 7 ft.....

I'd LOVE to build something like that.

But

  1. I live in a golf course neighborhood with NAZI HOA enforcers
  2. Got no where to park it after I build it
  3. Have to sell some toys to justify buing it

Sounds like piss-poor planning on your part. :flipoff2:

I hate to bring a thread up from the dead, but I have a question. If you took the axle and suspension off of the pop up and bolted it to the trailer, could you use the title from the pop up to register it? The only reason I'm asking this is if it were titled as a camper, I think I wouldn't have to have a weighted tag. My tag is only rated for 13,000lbs and I think the truck and a trailer like this would weigh more than that. It would just be nice if I could register it as a camper.

I am pretty sure DMV would have to sign off on your title change..since you now have a new frame under camper that can also haul something.. if it was just a bigger frame that could not haul any additional items probably fine

I thought that if it could haul cargo that it couldn't be titled as a camper. But then I started thinking of toyhaulers. I'm pretty sure there titled as a camper and they haul four wheelers and such. What if you converted an inclosed trailer to a camper toyhauler? Would it be the same? Is it like the uhaul conversions where I just have to get it approved to be registered as a camper?
