Eastern Hognose Non venomous and a real drama queen! lol Cool snake!View attachment 417237View attachment 417238Found this little dude down at the end of our road by the back cattle gate. What kind is it?
No I didn’t kill it.
Was thinking hog nose based on the head but have never seen or heard of them around here so…. Just making sure it’s not something I needed to be aware of. It’s pretty close to the back corner of where my wee goats babies are. Not that a snake is going after a goat but didn’t want a recipe for an unfortunate accident.Eastern Hognose Non venomous and a real drama queen! lol Cool snake!
I was just thinking the same....other than dead. They do make a lot of fuss and try to convince you they are dangerous. Don't they also flatten their head to mimic other species?Eastern Hognose Non venomous and a real drama queen! lol Cool snake!
Yes they can flatten their body and flare their head like a cobra.I was just thinking the same....other than dead. They do make a lot of fuss and try to convince you they are dangerous. Don't they also flatten their head to mimic other species?
This one has been unnaturally flattened...
Oh and on another snake species......Copperheads. best place to find one now is eating Cicadas off trees.
Judging by the look on his face, I was going to say a Curb Stomped snake.View attachment 417237View attachment 417238Found this little dude down at the end of our road by the back cattle gate. What kind is it?

This isn't a reliable way to identify snakes. Just like a triangular head isn't. This is actually a good read. It applies to many snakes we don't have, but it's very informative. If see a snake with eyes like a cat it's bad snake.

There's quite a few bites that happen from messing with snakes in general. Leaving them alone is the best method. A water hose spray works well to move them along.Lengthy read. Cool
I treat all snakes as venomous. I believe my method is superior for safety. lol
That guy was making good money for back in the day!
Bet he could define what a woman was tooThat guy was making good money for back in the day!
I run into snakes constantly so I've made it habit to learn to identify them. The only venomous snake we have in Charlotte is the Copperhead but even with them it's good to know the markings and variations. I post them on my Facebook and I get lots of comments. I met this guy this week. He or she was a 4.5'-5' Black Rat SnakeLengthy read. Cool
