Random pic thread.

This! I cut my teeth right out the bat in heavy sheet and plate goods. All I knew was .035/.045 and heavier. Then my education really polished my stick and tig welding.
Years. I mean years as in half way through my career at present after cussing and fussing and literally questioning my abilities I discovered .023 and .030 hard wires. I'd always assumed hobby welders and anything below a 200 series machine ran them because of the user and power out put.
Marsfab drove me nuts looking at his porn weld quality and getting around tube and dang near what ever he built of gauges much lighter then I established my habits and form on.

His post and letting out some tech here and there pushed me to bite the bullet. Having owned a specific miller mig for years and then changing wire diameter was like buying a completely different machine.
That’s interesting, thanks for sharing!
I have two huge spools of .030 from I don’t even know where so that’s what I’m using.
Maybe I should buy some .23 while I’m still learning.
Yep, I was Billy Bigweld and wanted to run .035 for everything because more/bigger/better. Then one day I ran out and had to use a little spool of .030 peasant wire for sheet metal work or whatever it is that pansy men use .030 wire for. Damn if it didn’t weld better in about 95% of the stuff I do. Now I run .030 as my primary and the .035 just sits as a backup spool. If it a mediocre welder like me can tell a difference, I can’t imagine how much of a change it must be for someone who is really good and knows what they are doing.

Kernerville tonight (pic from FB). Building 128 years old.

It was the Caudill Electric Building.

Duane
Yeah that's the same building. Just called different things depending on how long you've been there.
Very sad

Customer called last night- had to go show off some of my “privelege ” this morning. That crap always hides in my work boots and tool bag.

I run .030 in my flux core at home. Our shop runs .030 for rails and lighter stuff, .035 for stairs.

So close......
