Random pic thread.

Also I would meter the existing outlet. Should be 2 legs of 110 and a neutral/ ground

Yea that is how the outlet I installed is wired. I’ll put a meter on it to confirm 110 each leg. I’ll check that video when I get back home.

The rocks holding up the porch with locust trunks as posts and just about perfect lines on the siding, I’d say it’s built better tha any dr Horton model I’ve seen
I pass this every day thinking the same thing

Today's my wife's birthday. She wanted a day of adventure and new trails.
Got up early, made it to Elk Knob State Park mid morning.

Decided to go across the mountain the loooong way. Ended up in Virginia at Grayson Highlands State Park for a waterfall hike.
Hiked the Cabin Creek Trail and explored around the campground a bit.

She's always dreamed of seeing the wild ponies there. We had time before sunset to hike up Rhododendron Trail to a bald. Sure enough, we saw 7 of them. She got better pics as I was busy with a misbehaving malamute who has a special high pitch sonar call when he sees a horse.

Gotta say, pretty solid birthday for her and I had a blast too. Puppies passed out in the minivan all the way home.

Radon is really common around here. The abaitment fan that pulls air from under the basement died.

It's a real health risk but man what a racket the business is for equipment.

Option A - licensed installer replacement - $1k
Option B - buy a matching fan unit, DUY swap. $250

I chose Option C - spend a Saturday, take it apart, diagnose bad capacitor, replace for $9.

If you have radon venting setup, that means they tested and needed it. Atleast for the apartments we build, they put in the radon piping but test it. if not needed they cap it below roof if needed they vent thru roof. Id choose option b and then do c as a back up.

This is how the world used to work. Now all the service men just replace everything while the populace gnashes teeth about the environment.

I'm aware I need the vent, thats why I fixed it. Why trash the whole unit?
I fixed the fan by replacing the capacitor. No need to spend all the money on a fan when $9 (that includes 2 caps) does the same thing with a little more work.

Yeah - it used a weird form factor capacitor (for no particular reason) I couldn't find anywhere. But a generic one with matching spec and a little creativity on mounting did the trick. Cleaned and lubed the motor while at it.

The nimrods that installed it ran the vent (which is just rectangular gutter) up to just past the roof line and left it open on the top facing vertically. Theoretically as long as the fan is running nothing will go in there... but magically, power being out and rain can happen at the same time. Imagine that! The fan housing had a lot of evidence of water and crud inside. I'm guessing thats what killed the capacitor. I'm making a vent cover for it to prevnt that happening again....

I did some clearing in the woods where I deer hunt yesterday. It was really badly grown up with briers and vines that had wrapped up fallen trees and whatnot. I cut a ton of 2" saplings too. It was good to get some seat time on my little tractor that I picked up.

I also found a critter hole that I was curious about. Turns out it's from crawdads.
