Random Thoughts.....

I don’t think the Motor Carrier Enforcement Tahoes are arresting too many people, and if they do, I’m sure they have plenty of buddies who can be there on short notice.
No they don't, they write big freaking tickets and park the rigs if they want to

@ghost id recommend exiting the logistics industry while you still can. I’ve heard you talk, and you don’t sound anything like the dozens of foreigners I’ve talked to in the past few days dealing with brokers and carriers and drivers and customer service. I guarantee they are working for dirt cheap too, judging by the level of service received.

Easy to make money when you do it all illegally. All flying under the radar

Actually I'd say most are legal in the sense they have the proper FID and DOT certifications. They have to have that. Where they differentiate is they run for a lot less then I can. We pay our driver .60/mile. The big difference is they put guys in their trucks and run them. Two of those guys in a truck might make .60/mile but they have two drivers and cover a lot more than my one guy can. IF it's a single driver I'd be surprised if he made .30/mile. Those guys don't want or need lie we do. Look at how many of them live in a single house. Not sure if I'm articulating what I'm trying to though.

"Their drivers have a lower standard of living than ours do."

This unfortunately puts you at a competitive disadvantage due to making a respectable decision.

Exactly. they live in shacks where they come from and living in the truck with a co worker is nothing new. I have a couple campfire tales on this subject.

Do your stories include any about them drilling a hole in the sleeper and using it as a mobile porta jon? My grandpa was in the heavy wrecker industry and before he passed, came across a few trucks that he refused to touch and left on the road because of that very reason.

One does yes.

BIL is a diesel cop in Oklahoma and he has said there are trucks he hits about mid trailer as he approaches the tractor and already knows what to expect by the smell. Oh, the wind is never not blowing in Ok. if you haven’t been there……

No matter who wins today. Winners are still going to win, and losers are still going to lose. No matter who's in charge there's plenty you can do for yourself.
That makes make Facebook message to you yesterday even more ironic. I hope it was inspiring. :flipoff2:

I have a nephew that is a mechanic for an OTA agency. Said he's seen this multiple times now. And where does all that shit go? All over the underside.

There have been several fire departments built in the surrounding towns that are huge and super fancy. Crazy fancy stone work, crazy windows and the huge glass roll up doors. Then there is one in another town in the county that just built a nice, red iron station. Nothing fancy but does the job just fine.

Since tax money is paying for all this, why spend double to triple the money for the same thing? It seems like a huge waste just to make something pretty and fancy. Its not like red iron buildings are ugly. It seems like going out to dinner for your birthday with your friend, knowing they are going to buy yours and ordering the most expensive thing on the menu.

Because if I spent $3.6m on a home, I don't want to come to the end of my gated community and make a right turn on the main road and see a Butler building...eww

I've passed a few that fit that description :shaking:

Great question. I dint know why. Our main station is really just a nice red iron building. It's old and we've been working for a few years to spruce it up some. Fresh stone work, a new sign, fresh paint, and some canopies for the entrances. A done slowly and by local companies.

Our sub station is a simple red iron building, on the edge of a corn field. 3 bay doors and a bathroom. Simple, but absolutely functional. And a good use of funds.

I see some of these McMansion stations and wonder why and how. Not a thing wrong with wanting a nice looking facility that serves the needs of the dept and community, but I see so many that spent millions on a new station.
