Round 2: Keepin' up with the Joneses, Mud Devils and Tony Woody

@Jody Treadway

Sounds like injector refresh time when you change the hoses every couple of years. Should be sufficient!

Or....4BT swap? :D Oooh, better yet, a Benz OM606. The 2JZ of the diesel world. I know you like the skinny pedal!

My son wants to put the OM606 out of his wrecked 99 in the MJ behind my shop. With Dieselpuk goodies of course.

True. I do swap my hoses every couple of years to be safe. If you buy it in bulk and use the same size on everything, it's not too costly at all.
I had the blue "fuel" hose go bad in just 5 years. It didn't look bad until I touched it and then it slowly leaked 7 gallons of gas on the attached garage floor. The wife still gives me shit over that and now I have a giant unsealed spot on my floor.

Damn...money bags over here has sealed concrete.

Next you're going to tell me it has a vapor barrier underneath it and a smooth finish!

:D

Had a couple of hours after work today to start on the tranny swap. Old C6 is fine, just starting to show age. It's a bone stock Bronco C6 from like 1983. I did swap converters years ago. But the internals are all OEM.
New one is a Fritts Performance full build. All the high performance goodies, better servo, manual valve body, blueprinted front pump, etc. Certainly a great upgrade. While had the trans out, I swapped in a SFI heavier duty flex plate and ARP hardware.
I got a lot going on the next week, but I'll try to stab the new one in soon.
Found a worn universal joint in the rear (1350) and all the skids need a good pressure wash.
If you ever wondered how to make a small cubic inch V8 twist up quickly...that little converter sure helps 😉

Finally was able to squeeze in some shop time.
My converter arrived back from PTC. Had them rebuild it for good measure and lower the stall 250 rpm. Was great in low range, but was pretty annoying in high.
Got the transmission reinstalled tonight. Cleaned the Atlas (@CasterTroy would be proud) and serviced it too. Popped the cover, inspected the internals and all looks good.
Probably finish getting the transfer case in next week if time allows. Wheeling trips are on hold for a bit anyway with the interstate closures.
I did pick up a Victor Jr EFI lower and intake elbow recently. When I do the cam swap later this year, I'll install that intake. It'll get rid of the upper plenum and allow easier service of everything.
Plus it looks cool and I want something different.

Done!
Made it over to the shop this afternoon and wrapped it up. New transmission feels great out in the parking lot and in Rutledge Rd 🤘
Went ahead and replaced the drive line joints (1350 rear and 1410 front), replaced limit straps, serviced the super joints and have it quick once over.
I *may* try to squeeze in a Harlan run here soon (Gulches as a fall back plan) and definitely bringing it to the G2G in December.

Spent last Saturday at Gulches making sure the new transmission is dialed in. She good.
The lower stall speed made 2wd much more enjoyable w/o stalling to 3k before moving. New trans shifts great and does C6 things.

I've been running 7/8" rear upper heims forever. Just replace them every couple of years when they rattle. Ordered some 1.25" heims, brackets and such from Barnes and they arrived today. I'll cut off the old stuff and weld in the new in a few weeks.
Gotta get the SRT off the lift and 2 paying jobs wrapped up first.
Took a mountain bike buddy on his first wheeling trip that day. Dude had a blast.

My rear uppers always kinda scared me. They're 3/4" x 7/8" heims with 1.5" x .250" toob, but still had a gut feeling one may fail.
Luckily, they never did, just wore out rapidly and caused a ton of noise.
Today was a long ass day in the shop. Replaced the old rear uppers with 1.25" heims and 1.75 x .120 DOM. Went with all RH thread so I won't have to deal with jam nuts loosening up.
Removing the old frame mounts was an absolute chore. I made them so they wouldn't fail or ever come loose. Took about 3 hours to get them off and the welds ground away. Did some horse trading with @Pless and ended up with all that I needed to replace frame and axle side mounts, tube and heims. Thanks buddy

All turned out great. Had to re-route the exhaust (again) so I'll need to finish welding it up next weekend.

Good deal, glad it all worked out, I appreciate the gear work! Now I just need to get my butt in gear getting this axle under this truck.
