Round 2: Keepin' up with the Joneses, Mud Devils and Tony Woody

Already sold them. Sold the Racelines they were on as well.
Going a little bigger and a little softer :huggy:

I hear he's joining the cult and going 43s.

43 SEXes?

:) Say it is so.

Since my favorite Low Country forum member asked... why yes tomorrow holds a set of 43 sticky SXs wrapped around some black Racelines.

Also of note: I had 2 roommates in college from Walterboro SC. I thought they talked funny, they thought I talked funny. However we came to agreement over how good fried gator tail was!

We'll, I guess it's time for a seasonal update
Been a pretty solid year of wheeling so far. No complaints and no issue aside from a noisy power steering pump. On my last outing, my PS pump would whine under load. Plenty of assist, just noisy.
I bought a new one (PSC P pump) and sent the old one back for a check over/rebuild. PSC emailed me a tracking number and sent me back a rebuilt pump for free. I couldn't believe it! At least I have a spare now.
I did buy some 43 sticky SX from a good buddy. Holy crap these things hook up like mad! Without a doubt they are the best tires I have ever ran.
No changes are planned aside from fresh sheet metal and a new paint scheme over the winter...

That'll be my next tire purchase @ghost
Unless I came up with a crazy chemical concoction when applied to a tire tread face, without any prior mechanical separation, could parmenantly alter the molecular compound of the elastomer into a softer, er...."stickier" tire, and these boggers might be the perfect candidate. To expedite this experiment, I should do a follow-up call on a chemist I met down in Georgetown. I wouldn't date her for the wrong reason. She also had nice thighs.
Forgive me for the derailment.

They make a compound that does that now for dirt track tires. It doesn't last long though, as it is crazy sticky.

If you like boggers, the 42 sticky would be your favorite tire. It was a single run only, but could be made again with a big order. Could also make another tire, but 38.5SX is likely the next best size cuz it can't be SX2.

looking at your front bumper, I am planning to do something similar. But with your clevis mounts mounted where they are, do they stop your approach, or get bent at all? would you mount them elsewhere?

Yes...This! LOL! Hence the term..."soaked tires"!:D

Also... there are several compounds made for Asphalt racing tires. Not quite as aggressive as the dirt compounds. Been around for ever!

Example; Toluene was always popular to soften asphalt tires.;)

Have you looked at my rig? Dents and bent steel don't worry me!
I like them where they are. They have never hindered my approach or anything like that. Besides, they are like 1" thick.

right, same here, but bending a clevis hole makes it useless for the clevis....no? but good to know that sticking down doesnt seem to matter!

I suppose it is time for an 19 month update.
It still kicks a pretty substantial amount of ass on the trail :D
Been to Windrock, Harlan, Chocco, Quarry Town, The Flats and The Shop a few dozen times. No breakage, no worn parts, no nothing! I haven't had to do any repairs or anything. Just maintainence.

I guess the only thing of note was a proper air intake tube. Ever since I have had the truck it would occasionally want to stall while idling, have a rolling idle and basically not idle like I would like. Coming from the 5.0 Fox body world, I associated it with a bit of a lumpy cam. Nothing i couldn't live with or anything. The way it was set up was the MAF hardmounted to a tab on the chassis with a 3.25" x 8" long intake hose attached to the throttle body. So the MAF was pretty close to the engine. Twice (when I was getting jiggy with the throttle) the engine would rock enough so the hose would pull off the MAF and it would run poorly. i got tired of it and bought a generic flexible air intake tube that enough slack where it wouldn't happen again. Now the air filter and MAF are behind the headlamp with a 30" run to the throttle body. Much like a stock Fox body. Doing so made it cold start like a stock V8, never stalls and it idles like a tractor. All along, I needed the MAF relocated away from heat and further away from the TB. Just like a Mustang likes.

I also recently swapped my 43 Sticky SX on Racelines for 42" sticky Treps on Dirty Life wheels. Dirty Life is trying to spread the word about how cool their wheels are and partnered with a local wheel distributor to have me showcase their toughness and good looks. Much like @McCracken, handsome and strong. @Stuntman Autoworks is always making excuses why my rig does so much better than his, so I decided the best way to show my driving superiority to run the same tires he does. Maybe that'll shut him up. Unlikely, but I'm hopeful. :flipoff2:

I am going to drop my truck off with @stinkbomb in a month or two for some toob refreshening. Somehow a bunch of it has been tweaked and I like his style. Plus, I want to see him climb in my rig. Luckily, he is an awesome fabricator and I'm sure he'll come up with a way to reach the pedals to drive it in his shop, NTK Fab. Going to give him a blank canvas and a budget to see what he comes up with. I desparately need more weight behind the axle for downhill stability. A new 25 gallon fuel cell and unique storage system for my tools and spares should greatly help. I look forward to seeing what he comes up with.

Over the winter I will likely add a NW Fab crawlbox primarily for better front driveline angles. I run a hogged out 1410 from @Oliver's but still need more droop without binding. Best way will be to run a longer driveshaft. So why not move it back with the use of a doubler? Crawlbox mated to my 4.3 Atlas will give me tons of control when crawling.

To summarize: I bought a truck with pretty good bones and modified everything on it (aside from the actual chassis) to best suit my desires and driving style. Fast forward a few years and I couldn't be much happier. It's a point and shoot rig that takes everything I throw at it. Looking forward to continued beatings and body damage until I strip it down and put everything in a buggy chassis in a year or two...

Plan on a 2-3 month wait on NWF. Thankfully they were able to squeeze my eco box onto their latest run in the shop.

Not sure if they keep other kits on the shelf better!

A few months have passed and I'm still beating on the truck relentlessly. I recently sold the 43s and went back with an old flame, sticky Treps. But this time in the 42" flavor. Had them on the truck for a few trips to the Flats and last weekend, Harlan. They performed great and I couldn't be happier.

Truck kicked butt all weekend and even though the pic doesn't show, the winch is still spooled the same as it was 3 months ago. The Ranger flat out works!
However, changes are a brewing and needed.
Yesterday, my wife nagged me for the 3rd time about the smell of gasoline while we were wheeling. My cell vent is in the bed and when bouncing on a hot day, the fumes can creep into the cab. But this was a stronger aroma. I shut it off after going up Your Turn a ways and found my fuel rail was cracked and spraying gasoline near the alternator and distributor. Holy crap.
I limped it back to the trailer with multiple extinguishers at the ready but luckily, none were needed.
My plan is to swap another OEM rail on and while it's apart, going to install all new ethanol friendly hose front to back as a precautionary measure, The rail split from fatigue I'm sure but this is a great time to correct any future leaks from occuring. I also have a 24 gallon bladder cell that will be going in so I have more weight down and back.
In the warm months, the engine temps climb to around 220* when I'm lettin' it eat. Not a huge deal, but SBF usually run around 195* even with high ambient temps. Now is also the time to install a larger, aluminum radiator and let the 1999 OEM 3.0 V6 one live a comfortable life of retirement.
The truck will be down for a few weeks but I plan to have it together in August for the yearly Peer Pressure ride where I escort @ncsutj and @77GreenMachine up Mason Jar.

Stay tuned as I cut up a perfectly functioning rig later this week...

I see how it be, I feel like a neglected side hoe.

Anyways I'm glad you didn't burn the down, now getter fixed so you can drag my ass around Harlan while escorting @ncsutj and @77GreenMachine

I’m ready! Excited to have a larger rig, maybe run some new trails. Mason Jar is my all time favorite trail but there’s still a few I haven’t seen there.

Btw, we are staying on the Putney side this year.
