Has anyone been to these "roads" lately?

I've never been on them but was thinking about going up to Boone/Blowing Rock and doing a little exploring this weekend.

I searched and found all kinds of conflicting info about gates. tresspassing, connections between the 2 roads, meth labs, zombie attacks, etc.

Any relevant, current info would be greatly appreciated.

It's straight thru from 321 to Sampson. There are signs but as long as you stay on the trail it's legal. The gates are only at entrances to private property off to the side. Let me know when you want to go and we will go with you. It's a pretty area. I've been going for years and never had any problems.

Darn. I won't be able to go this Saturday, but will probably head up there or go to Gulches next Saturday......
I've heard the same thing from some guys that were there recently. The no trespassing stuff is for the roads off the main road.
As for other relevant info - here's one to think about.....

Mountain Man: Now let's you just drop them pants.
Mountain Man: I bet you can squeal like a pig. Weeeeeeee!
Bobby: Weee!

Its legal. Just be aware that you will almost definitely see something sketchy, and if your rig breaks and you cant get it out until the next day, be prepared to stay with it, or you'll come back to nothing.

Thanks.

We will make sure to be well prepared (and well armed).

Would you have reservations about taking your 9 and 12 year old kids with you (if you had them)?

Define Sketchy? I will be bringing my wife and 2.5 year old with me if I go.

hahahaha :bounce2:

No problem during the day. There is a cool cemetery with some really old graves and my daughter plays in the little creek in the summer. I would leave before dark just to keep from having any encounters with any "less desirables".

You shouldnt have any problems, been going there for years, but havent been lately,I have never had any problems.a few of the land owners up there do not like people driving through there ,but they cant stop it because its a road,At one point people
were driving up and down the creeks and it became a problem,so as long as you dont do that i think youre ok,fun and scenic little ride though, your family would enjoy it.:driver:

I have a question...........a little over half way through, coming from the 321 side, a ways past the large play ground with the mud hole there is a hill climb the is off the trail to the right, pretty steep and curves off to the right. Where does this come out at? it can't see any signs of it coming back out on the main trail......

If it's this hill - I think it just dead ends and you have to come back down....

Also - These guys took quite a bit of decent videos of their trip up Richland Rd last year. You'll find quite a bit in the thread - http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/south-east/136239-richland-gap-meet-1-30-11-a.html

So I'm guessing all of the creek crossings you guys were doing are not part of the actual trail. If that is the case I wouldn't post video of it online.
Not sure on that particular trail, but there are quite a few roads that have creek crossings as part of the "road", but any riding down the creek would not be part of the "road".

Ive seen several groups up there firing off a few rounds, where ever they felt like shooting towards. Ive been in a few situations where people in other groups decide to stop on the trail and disappear for whatever reason and you've gotta drive around them. Not a huge deal except for the big drop offs on the side you've got to drive towards . Saw a guy once take a huge full cab extended bed pickup in there. We met him on one of the sharper turns :shaking:

Ive been in there at night several times, and really haven't seen anything too bad.

FYI, the road does have several creek crossings. The one at the very end (Blue Ridge side) is a blast. The rest are pretty minor.

From the maps, it looks like there a quite a few creek crossings, I think what they're talking about is just turning and driving UP a creek.

The trail runs beside the creek and weaves in and out of it some places.....

Pm the guy that uploaded them to youtube if you are butthurt about it. I didn't upload them.

Nope I'm not butt hurt. Just never been there and some of the videos give the idea of you driving upstream. I would hate to see what looks like a really nice place get shut down because people driving off trail. I'm not going to go into a lecture because I believe most people on here Know the difference between right and wrong.

I'm looking forward to checking this place out.

There's one place you drive up the creek for about 20 yards. It's part of the trail. There are several other creek crossings. I haven't watched the videos but if people are driving in the creek bed anywhere but that one time they are off the trail.

I would be worried about the trash dumping, car burning, and Meth heads getting the road closed besides a group like us. The trail weaves in and out of the creek bed, and I'm sorry, I'm not crossing that ragedy ass bridge, I'm going in the creek.

Each person in the group hauls out a bag full of trash out, we practice trail etiquette and introduce new people to the hobby every trip we take.

You wanna do something about keeping a trail open besides complaining on the internet? Get out and go pick up after these Meth heads and low lifes destroying places like this.
