SHENANIGANS

Kids wanted to knock out something small on the buggy today so we mounted all 4 Rigid lights that’ll serve as headlights and approach lights. We also mounted up the winch, hawse, spooled the rope up and stuck the super fancy Factor 55 hook on there. My 9 year old was adamant that we put a new Warn decal on there because the old one was gone. $24 frickin’ dollars for that decal. I added some gorilla glue to make sure this one stays.

Just take $24 out of his allowance.

Diggin this build, and loving the kid touches.

Well I put a solid 8 hours in on the buggy tonight, but I also bounced around like a ping pong ball. First thing I did was blow everything apart and get rid of that hideous orange.

Managed to get one 14B hub torn down, painted, new seal installed, new rotor and studs. Would’ve completed this task if the spindle kit I bought would fit in the key way. I’m gonna have to do some filing to make it fit.

Bolted in the Art Carr shifter I picked up here on NC4X4.

Mounted up the rear 2 rock lights just because I had the panels out and it was convenient.

Then I mounted up one more beadlock and tire so I could stand back and admire the view. These are the shots that keep me excited.

Oh, and a full wipe down on the seats and a coat of armor all because shiny.

Took the advice of a few guys smarter than me and ditched the OE knuckles and the BTF hi-steer arms. Opted for the Solid keyed knuckles from ECGS and the matching arms from Four Wheel Supply. Tie in kit and springless conversion included.

Good choice, exactly what I have.

Wife said purple...

A lot of piddly things done because I can’t seem to dedicate the several days I need to put the 60 together. All of the orange is finally gone! Had the panels media blasted. Painted the fender panels with Rustoleum truck bed coating.

14 bolt hubs are complete with tires on both sides. That’s a fat AZZ right there.

And the wife got me a super fancy steering wheel with suede for her girly hands.

If I wanna be one of the cool kids, I’m gonna need one of these...

5.3 LS truck motor, DBC, with ~140K on the clock. Just running and reliable is what’s on the agenda for now. I’ll pull the intake and heads. Have a local shop clean, plane, and pressure check the heads. I’ll get a new oil pump and probably one of those fancy C7R timing chains while I’m at it. I already have a steam line kit so I’ll drill and tap the water pump for it’s return. Maybe even throw a can of paint at it.

Whatca gonna use for engine management?

Right now, I’m leaning towards the Holley Terminator X Max setup. Clean, simple, learning, and allows for a upgrades down the road. I’m still open to suggestions though. Plenty of time to study it still.

I'm super happy with mine.

Just one thing, it doesn't "self tune" as well as the internet makes it seems to. Offroading puts all kinds of weird loads that don't play well with self tuning.

There is a lot of work left to make the engine perform at its best. I'd still take the car to get it dyno tuned by a reputable shop.

I’ve read some of the same. It’ll definitely be on the list of things to do. I’m probably a year or more away still, but at a minimum, it’ll make the trip up to HP Tuners if I can’t find a local guy.

That's the same route I'm planning to go. For the money you can't shake a stick at it. I was planning to go the Hp Tuners route but I'd have more in than Holley and less tunability.

Pretty productive couple days while everybody is off for Christmas break. Got the Super Joints installed in the axle shafts.

Then managed to get both Dana 60 hubs put together. One knuckle all lined out with Delrin bushing in the spindle and high steer arm drilled for the tie in kit. Once I’ve got the other knuckle complete and the lower pinion bearings and caps cleaned up, she’ll be ready for final assembly.

I also test fit the purdy LS6 intake I picked up off of eBay.

Between painting parts, packing bearings, and playing referee between my 2 boys, I managed to get one side completely assembled. It only took 2 different text messages to the @Jody Treadway 1 ton tech support line.

This is probably a more realistic ride height and wheelbase.
