SHENANIGANS

Nice! When do you estimate to be out beating on this thing?
Hard to say really. I feel like I already own 95% of my parts and I gave Matt a chunk of cash up front to get me going. Time will tell how far it gets me. To be honest, I enjoy building almost as much as wheeling. It’s top priority for me and the wife. It’ll get every minute and every dime available to move things along.

It’s always that last 5% that takes 95% of the time lol

You could do like me and not finish it, so you save time on teardown and money on paint that will get scratched.

then the last 5% only take 90% of the time :p
OCD would never allow that.

Lil bling showed up today. Some fancy aluminum tie rods from WOD. Two to run and a third to have as a spare. Pretty sure @mcutler can use it to make one heck of an “oh shit” handle for the wife to hold onto.

Couple updates from the latest trip to Mayberry. Matt welded the Artec ram mount on and I couldn’t wait to bolt on all my shiny goodies.

The winch mount originally on the chassis was severely impacting up travel on the front axle. Removed it and picked up a basic winch mount from Barnes4WD. As luck would have it, it’s 26” wide and couldn’t fit more perfectly. Using this mount will net me the 8” of up travel we were shooting for. It’s also in the right position to double as a suck down winch if I choose to. The compromise is that’ll I’ll have to part ways with my fancy Factor 55 UltraHook. It’ll be up for sale on here shortly...

Good thing about Matt’s shop is the variety of “mock-up” items sitting on the shelf. He tacked together some links so we could start measuring out the front geometry. Chassis side was already configured when I bought the chassis. Seems like they’ll work just fine. The front shock towers however, are gonna need some adjustment. Not tall enough for my 16” shocks. A plan has already been gathered and a plasma cutter will make quick work of it. In the end, I’m sure you’d never know these were ever there.

I’ve got quite the shopping list put together. Everything from axle tabs, Fragola fittings for the coolant, braided nylon hose, K&N filter, and even a different power steering pump. I’ve been convinced to go gear driven and never look back. Snatched off the PSC pump and the GoatBuilt mount. It’ll be up for sale shortly as soon as I can get some pictures together.

New power steering setup from Scott’s Custom Offroad is here and installed. Even with truck spacing there is interference with the front, driver coil pack. Of course that’s not an issue for @mcutler and his TIG torch. Little cut there, TIG magic, and voila…. custom awesomeness!

The other accomplishment this week was front geometry all tacked in place and the first cycle to full bump. With 8” up and down, we can barely see daylight between the upper links and the chassis. Everything else fits together great. We’ll probably end up cutting up travel to 7.5” to allow for 2” diameter upper links. Next trip we’ll focus on getting the front shocks upper mounts redone.

Spent some time with my old friend @mcutler today and checked this rig out in person.
Damn Awesome!

And @tw89yj , your rig is sick and twisted. No shit...

Front upper shock towers are gone. This wipes the slate clean for some CutlerFab originality. He’s got several ideas bouncing around his mind and I’m sure it won’t disappoint. Shocks are where they need to be. Just gotta tie it all together.

Also got the tabs for the fuel cell coped and tacked in place. I love seeing parts find their way home. Ripping open boxes is like Christmas every time I go to Mayberry.

Probably a week old now, but here’s the results of the last trip up to Mayberry. I spent half a day making a cardboard box. Matt took my arts & crafts, and made it into form and function. Aux cooling group is now installed and bolted down.

Also got a few more things mocked up for now. WOD hydroboost is in place, but Matt will have to work his magic with an offset brake pedal. Also cut down and notched the front skid plate to align with my engine and passenger side drop case.

Another successful trip up to @mcutler shop to work on the WOD buggy. Rear package tray is done. Repurposed some old shock mounts to hinge the tray off of. Matt did his custom touches to the T-handle latches and of course all the welding credit goes to him as well. Simply pull the 2 handles and raise the rear tray to get access to the fuel cell. Toolbox and cooler are also mounted in their permanent home. Now the pics…

Another 2 days at CutlerFab and we’re halfway to roller status. Probably the most killer upper shock towers I’ve ever seen. Matt’s imagination and skill know no boundaries. Cycled the front suspension and as expected, no binding and tons of clearance for the 43’s. Hopefully I’ll get the front 7075 aluminum links ordered from WOD tonight. Last thing he did today was mount up my hydroboost. TIG Tuesday is definitely a thing! Photo dump…

Couple more days of progress. This go round it’s all about rear suspension. To start with, my wife bought me this Mac’s Trail D-Vise for my last rig and I really liked having it with me. I knew I wanted it, but it took Matt’s mind to bring it to fruition. 2” receiver, sideways, with a 5/8” nut welded in the base, and a miter cut on the leading edge to make clearance for link arm bolts.
C8B9FBB5-20DC-4F1E-999E-8404B5FAD2F9.jpeg

The D-Vise will be stored upside down and forward above the rear pinion. When you tighten the vise jaws, it’s super snug and doesn’t rattle at all. The vise handle that operates the jaws is the same size as the grade 8 bolt, therefore no other tools required to flip it and use it.

My aluminum links from WOD came in, so once I swapped them in up front, it was time to move the mock-up links to the rear. Here it is at full bump.
2B6CF5B1-7FA2-47CA-B091-2D0FC7C55FF0.jpeg

And the receiver tucks in nice and tight too.
D7F49C6D-8128-4615-981B-032355A02B37.jpeg

Found a home for the rear reservoirs and Matt tacked those in as well.
5DB992F7-450B-4DA4-BCF7-CBAC060DCFE3.jpeg

I also got brave and tried out Matt’s stomp shear while he wasn’t looking and trimmed my hood section down again to fit inside the shock towers.

Another 3 days @mcutler shop and she’s off the table! Full blown roller and she looks mean sitting on the bumps.

All in all a very productive week.

How are you handling the hydroboost with the scott's pump ? Flow limiter ?
Yes, Scott’s asked the question up front and sent a flow diverter with my pump.

Damnit Bobby.....This thing is sick!

This is probably the best steering/braking solution out there.
You'll be very happy with it I'd say.
x2.

Yall are making that WOD chassis even better. I like the booties over the headers.
