SHENANIGANS

Seeing as how I recently tried and failed to buy a Toyota from @K9guy , I figured I better go ahead and spend that money on something I know the buggy needs. Here it is, Holley Terminator X Max and the 7” Digital Dash. Selling off the original gauges and hopefully the Painless switches and fuse panel almost completely paid for the bigger screen.

Anybody who has met me knows I have tattoos. One in particular is my representation of my time in the Navy. It’s the angry monkey from Family Guy wearing a Dungaree shirt, wrapped around my right leg. He’s holding the 9/16 combo wrench that was always missing from the toolbox.

So I decided I wanted to do something special for the buggy. Come across a guy that does custom metal art. Sent him a picture of my tat and told him I wanted something similar in 3D form to use as a dash ornament. Ol boy took our hour long phone conversation and knocked it out of the park. Now I’ll always have a 9/16 on the trail. Good luck borrowing it though.

That'd make a badass shifter handle if you were running a stick

It’s drilled and tapped to be one if I like, but I wanna be able to slap it in reverse if need be without impaling my hand on something sharp.

Time to kill today. Went ahead and did a mild shave on the old 14 bolt.

To go with this, it would be cool to do something similar with a wrap on your buggy. Have the different tattoos ghosted into the side panels, or something. I believe Matt had something similar in the first wrap on the Copper Crawler.

Yeah, he still has a panel in his shop that he showed me. Jury still out on this subject. Since we blasted the frame, the only color for sure is the black fender panels. The wife is pretty adamant that we paint the other panels to match her truck. It’s that dark metallic charcoal grey from Ram. Cyber Grey maybe... I dunno. Hard for me to justify putting an automotive grade paint on panels I know I’ll be scratching up. Spray paint is super economical and I’m 100% sure I’ll be out of money when we get to that point.

Maybe you can find a close color in a Duplicolor or something cheaper that you can get it either option.

I was doing some more studying online and I noticed that PSC just went up $100 on all their orbitals. Figured I better pounce on another vendor before they all caught on and raised their prices too. Settled on the 185cc to keep my turns lock to lock under 3.

I also picked up a set of headers from @Curtis_H and bolted them on. Should be good for another 10-15 HP. Based on my rough measurements, they should be about perfect.

For the eagle eyes out there, you’ll notice that the nitrous solenoids and plate are gone. Call it getting old... call it being skeered, but the main thing that killed it for me was the lack of storage for that bottle. It’s a compromise I just wasn’t willing to make. Tools and spare parts vs nitrous bottle. Common sense won out.

For future reference Beyond Precise has load reactive orbitals for $250. From reading on Hardline no one has had complaints out of them.

Sad face on the nitrous but totally understand the lack of space.

That’s the old man’s. 1969 SS 427. A true 1 owner that he bought new in 1969. The full restoration is probably 15 years old now, but it’s Cadillac white diamond pearl with a custom tweed interior.

Here’s a taste of what she sounds like. This car started my craze for auto anything and everything HP and torque. This one makes 572 HP and 580 lb-ft at the crank.

Wow. Just wow.

Couple more pieces of the puzzle showed up and I wanted to mock a few things up so I can see how it’ll fit together. Goat Built 18 gallon poly fuel cell with aluminum can and mount. I’ll run the straps down and secure it to the existing pad from the previous cell.

Then I’m gonna repurpose the base to this Goat Built mount and use it to make a rack above the cell. I’ll order a pair of bullet hinges and latches to make the rack tilt up and give access to the cell.

I picked up 2 of these Harbor Freight waterproof boxes to use for storage. The large one holds all my tools and will strap down to the rack. Still room for a cooler to sit beside it. The second will be strapped behind the seats on the package tray.

An Artec Industries battery box will sit low and forward of the fuel cell with a pair of Derale Atomic coolers for transmission and PSC cooling.

And lastly, I had to modify my Holley fuel pump mount to accommodate the deeper cell. It’s designed for up to 12” deep tanks and mine is 14”. Picked up some 3/8” aluminum rod, cut some new threads, and stretched it all down. A Holley HydraMat will make sure I get fuel at any angle.

Any reason for the holley pump over the stock gm one?

I didn’t have one to begin with and I plan to use all AN style fittings throughout the buggy. This Holley setup is real clean looking and uses a simple Walbro pump clamped to the aluminum rods. That makes it easily rebuildable and I could even carry a trail spare.

Makes sense, was just curious. I'm all for clean set ups and holley bling.

It’s been a month since the last update!? Come on

Just patiently waiting my turn at Cutler Fab. You know how it goes. Wanna get it done right and not booger anything up myself. I did manage to score a pair of Fox 2.5 14” coilovers the other day. Not much else I can do until my bay opens up at Matt’s. It’s cool.

Welp... got myself convinced that the 2.5’s weren’t for me. Spent the weekend getting it mocked back up for some closer measurements. After some discussion with the mastermind @mcutler here’s what we’ve settled on.

Specs:
20” belly height
115-117” wheelbase
Front: 30” axle tube to tower
9” up travel truss to tube
16” coilovers 8 up/down
Rear: 36” axle tube to tower
10” up travel truss to tube
16” coilovers 8 up/down

2.0’s will get ordered Monday from Accutune. Quick pics of the mockup.
