FWIW I just moved a vehicle sized piece of equipment from Pelham Alabama to York SC.
Dedicated truck. I called yesterday at 1pm and they dropped in off this morning at 9AM.
Weighed 8,900 lbs.
$870.
Not the cheapest but I didnt have time and it is a reference point for others who might find this in the future.
I use King of Freight for LTL and hot shot
type shipments at work. They, like most, are just brokers.
Getting ahold of an actual company owner/operator would be best obvy.
But, trucking rates are super high these days between the new ELD mandates and demand for legitimate trucking companies.
Be prepared for serious sticker shock.
Paying someone to drive it back and buying them a plane ticket home sounds pretty good IMO.
The problem in trucking right now is not enough qualified drivers, fuel cost, and insurance. You can almost guarantee rates are going up see fuel cost as to why. It cost $1.00/mile to run my trucks over the road and that is just driver pay and insurance cost. Does not include cost of equipment or fuel. On top of that the big guys have taken over. They get the business and get it when they can and don't have much care if they loose you because they know there are a lot less trucks on the road compared to how much freight has grown. Just my .02!
DAT hands down. Truckstop.com is crap compared to DAT. I use DAT only now days.
@GONOVRIT The $1200 quote was assuming they have other vehicles to go with it. I would expect rates for a 2400 mile trip to be in the $2400 starting range and up to as much as $4800. Two ways I'd approach this. Find other cars in the area that need to come this way and put them all on one truck to cut each cars cost. That means calling a car broker. Two find a flatbed guy near you that runs west coast that can carry vehicles and see if some steel or fork tuck or some other piece of equipment can share the ride back east with your car. That would need an TLT broker. Just my .02 here.
After 8 days of the same BS from the trucking company I signed on with we bought plane tickets. Won’t be our first time driving cross country by any means. I’ll update this thread with what it cost us when we get back.

That’s what we spent getting the car back to our house. We flew out from Charlotte @ 6:45am on 2/11. Got a connecting flight from Chicago to Portland. That flight landed at 11:45am, rented a car and drove 4.5hrs to Medford, OR where we returned the car and met a delivery driver from the dealership. Drove 6hrs from there to Reno and got in bed at 11:30pm. We were driving the next morning at 6am headed south to I-40. We drove straight through and pulled into our house at 12:01am Saturday night. Missed a lot of bad weather in OR, TX and OK. Trip went well and we had all day Sunday to get stuff done before returning to work.

Ha, current owner called me last night and said he’ll be putting it on the market soon. Kinda sad, he never even got to wheel it. He ran into a land issue at the new house and now he’s liquidating some toys.
