So How Many times per year do you go wheeling?

I took my oldest to URE once when she was 3 (now 8). She was too young. We made it through one or two trails before she fell asleep. I was worried she was going to end up with brain damage with the way her head was bouncing around o_O, so we called it a day and went home.

Guess I’m pretty lucky that my kids love it. My daughter already has a VERY specific plan that she wants me to get her a yellow wrangler with pink accents and put pink butterfly’s on it. I’m seriously gonna try to do that for her and when she is 13 or so and can reach the pedals I’ll let her wheel it. She’ll be 7 soon so I have time. Both kids ask regularly when we are gonna ride in the Jeep again.

The wife loves it too but she’s not crazy about the extreme stuff. We spent our honeymoon in Harlan and to hear her tell it I “almost dumped us down the side of the mountain”. It was a sketchy situation but I wasn’t worried, it shook her up a little bit though. I recently started letting her drive a little and she likes that a lot.

I bet I know where you'll be able to find one that still has under 100k miles in 5 years

I've taken my oldest a few times the past couple years (he was 4, almost 5 the first time, now 6), but the gnarlier stuff (or what seems gnarly to a kid) can be pretty scary to him. I'd almost prefer to have more of a (gasp!) Jeep or buggy so he could better see what was going on. And he just needs to get used to the off-camber feeling too. The kids WANT to go because they like watching dirt every day and going to monster jam and stuff like that. I hope to spend a lot more time with them on the trail as they all get big enough for it and while they still like hanging with their dad.

I was taking my son as soon as I didn't have to change diapers on the trail. He did every trail I ever did. He's 21 now and has an XJ and goes about once a month on his own. Never wheels with me anymore though. :(

My wife would never have interest. I think at one point she humored talking about going with me, but that was because she was trying to be supportive. Now any time I mention us going, she says "outdoors? ew..." :shaking:  too much grass, dust, and dirt. Hey, what can I say...she grew up city. That's what she gets for marrying into country folk.

This sounds like my wife. Even staying in a camper is roughing it too much for longer than a night.

My boys like riding their power wheels and 4wheeler around the house, but they dont like being strapped in enough to ride all day. Plus, taking a 3 & 6yr old on a weekend trip by myself, does not sound like fun.

 I couldn't take my wife camping if I tied her up and put her in a trunk! I asked her a few times if we could go because I did it all the time with my dad and granddad growing up. Not to mention all the camping trips sponsored by Uncle Sam. :smokin: She at first was completely refusing, until she saw the episode of Duck Dynasty where they had the huge motorhome RV, and she said she'd go in something like that....to which I said "that's referred to as 'glamping," but she didn't care. That's the only way she'd do it. Tent? Yeah, right. Travel trailer? For some reason, no.... motorhome RV the size of a small house? Now we're getting onto something.

I can imagine taking two little ones like that could be tough. I'm digging the fact that my daughter at now 17 months old likes watching automotive-type shows with me...I'm really hoping that she takes a liking to turning a wrench, possibly wants to learn some fabrication, and even better wants to go wheeling. Maybe (probably is more like it) I'll still be putting my pile of parts back together by the time she's that old and we can finish it together.

my 2 love being in the shop, but it typically turns into me having to hunt down a bunch of tools in random places, and working on some other project that my oldest has concocted with random things laying around the shop/yard. Both of mine ask alot of questions and are always curious. Future engineers in the making my wife says.:burnout:

That's awesome. I can't wait for the days like that with mine. Even if I'm having to hunt down tools in the most random of places

Maaannn - you couldn't have hit the nail on the head anymore for me. Two boys (6 & 3 in December) and this couldn't be any more true for them both! They love building their "inventions" which I am then constantly looking for missing bolts and tools. "But Daddy, I promise to put them back when I'm done" seems to be his favorite line (which, of course, never ever happens).

We were going 4-5 times with one to two long trips in addition. Jeepter Jams at Windrock and Crakers Neck were some of my favorites. (Along with the two trips to Moab) My Wife likes Windrock best but she really hasn't been on the hard stuff, we always seem to moving more there, than the day trips to URE, Flats, and Gulches.
As for my Son who has been wheeling since he was 2. Probably knows more than I do about XJs and wranglers, but doesn't know much about my CJ. He would go every weekend if possible, but he won't be doing that, just started at Auburn, no vehicle at all now. I think he is going to get his fix from Auburns Offroad team.

CJ has overheating issues, XJ may need a new engine. Hope to make last run of the year and work on both over the winter.
