So How Many times per year do you go wheeling?

It amazes me the wheeling arm chair qaurterbacks here on nc4x4 that havent been in years but will speak as if they go every weekend with over whelming knowledge. Just odd to me.

Many I know of that dont say much and have tons of knowledge and trail time.
I am kind of amazed at this as well.

Almost all my trips are multi day and not on the easy stuff. I know alot like to go out to a place like URE and just ride through the woods to get out of suburbia and that's fine, but for me that is extremely boring. If it's not something that has the potential for serious harm, or risk and doesn't get the adrenaline going then I'm not having a good time.

And that goes for more than just wheeling.

This

While I wasn't the least bit scared sitting on hells gate, one wheel so far up in the air, I think my trailer hitch was the only thing keeping from going over, I DID have the most amazing boner

That's the reason for the 5 point right? The crotch strap is the "boner hider".

Finished the buggy in January 2014 and wheeled about once a month(multi day trips) until October 2017. Included in that is a 10-14 day trip out west 4 years in a row.

I’m taking a good long break now as I haven’t wheeled since 10/2017.

Gotta be careful, apparently I'm contagious

I just got a 4x4 for the first time in about 10 years and only really ever go if I happen to be in Marion on the right weekend and can ride shotgun w/ @ramjo. But I also don't ever post any tech, so double jeopardy applies I think. :D

Tell them to post up. Maybe us webwheelers can learn a thing or two.

Up until last year, I was good for 6-8 Harlan, Chocco, or Windrock type trips. Add to that at least another 6-10 trips to the Flats or Shop.
But life and work took over last year and this year too. I've been twice this year and around 3-4 times last.

Our lives will hopefully calm down a bit and allow more woods time. We recently became more active in mountain biking, so there's that too...

I will be a while now before I will again. Just took a deposit on my rig last week since I haven't touched it in 7 months.

If I get something again likely it will be a SXS. Living in Raleigh and having to drive 6+ hours to get to someplace to really wheel more than a days worth of fun sucks.

or... I might buy a JK and join the soccer mom club

Let me explain my thought and opinoun.

The evolution of the the Wheeling community. I have been to a lot of events over the years of many different kinds as well as the West Coast. The Willing Community is changing not just in their rigs but also in the people doing it.

The Jeep JK is the primary reason for this, it drew in the crowd that have been willing for years and a whole new crowd of family Middle America people into the community. The days of having to be a fabricator or a mechanic to have a capable off-road rig are slowly dying, more people are willing now than they ever have but in a whole new way, most of these people no that they can order anything they need to make their Jeep as capable as they want and do it their self on such things as I JK Rubicon or maybe a TRD 4Runner.

And I would say the past 8 years most events I have been to east and west coast unless I was at the shop the flats or the Dixie run, TJ's JK's and even jl's outnumber buggies 100 to 1.

That crowd primarily looks for their information on forums specific to their vehicle because there are so many out there, it is very rare on nc4x4 for someone to ask about a JK build suggestion, most of those guys and gals that I know that are in that group that is growing of daily drivable rigs on 35s and lockers rarely ever say anything on nc4x4, don't really know why they just don't.

Some people may be upset at my opinion but the large buggy High horsepower big tire section of the Willing Community is slowly dying, there would be less and less places for them to go to be able to use their machine like they build it for. I have talked to Offroad Parks such as a o p, and their plans are not to build and cater to the buggy crowd now that to keep expanding and cater to the guy who daily drives his Jeep on 35s or the guy who daily drives is Toyota Tacoma that is built.

This section of the Wheeling community is growing at a very fast pace but for some reason any talk about building raised like that is taboo to mention, don't know why I just seems that way

Another reason for this is simply the availability of parts for these new rigs is just amazing, there are countless American companies that make incredible parts for JK's JLS and Toyotas. It makes it easy for someone with little experience or years of experience to get information by quality parts and build a rig that will do more and do it comfortably then it old leaf spring rig ever dreamed.

One last thing and I'll shut up, the other big change is environmental awareness buy much of the Wheeling crowd that at one time was never thought of, the tread lightly being introduced to the East Coast is starting to soak in, if you go out west and wheel Trails there. You basically never see any Trash, it is very rare that someone ever leaves a trail that is Marked.
I think that is slowly starting to sink in here on the East Coast but on a positive note the Willing Community is strong and we have a lot of groups is pulling For us to keep Land open

See you had it there.

but not here and to be honest I couldn't get past that to comprehend what was said

3-4 at best. This year..... zero :(

I have multiple hobbies though. So if I'm not wheeling I'm usually fishing or hunting or doing something else. I fish about 5-6 times a year so I think that's about on par with wheeling.

@Jason W.

I see where you’re coming from with your opinion and can agree with some of it.

As a “buggy guy” I can tell you I don’t see many jeeps that are still jeeps on the trails or the places that I usually wheel. You not seeing many buggy’s or extremely built rigs probably has a lot to do with the events you attend. Not to say there aren’t a metric shit ton of Jeeps clogging up the trails here and there :flipoff2:

JK's with 33's or 35's are everywhere, that is for sure. The only rocks the vast majority of them appear to drive on though, are the ones embedded in the concrete highways.

I hear mentioned that forums like this one are dying and that many group discussions are now happening on Failbook. I don't have a Failbook account, but perhaps many of the JK owners are over there.
