So How Many times per year do you go wheeling?

Hm. How many times in the past 18 years have I gone wheeling (willing?) …. I'd have to guess maybe 8-10. So if I average those out.... approximately .5 times per year...the last of those was done something like 14 years ago... Does that count? This is getting depressing. :shaking:

3-4 at best. This year..... zero :(

I have multiple hobbies though. So if I'm not wheeling I'm usually fishing or hunting or doing something else. I fish about 5-6 times a year so I think that's about on par with wheeling.

Same situation with myself in having other hobbies. My wife cannot go wheeling due to having three fused vertebrae in her neck, so it isn't a 'family activity' for us like it is many others on this site. As a family we take multiple day trip hiking and bicycling trips a year. We usually take one 5 day hiking trip somewhere in the mountains every fall.

I would have to say that forms like this are definitely not dying but they are becoming vehicle specific. For example the JK crowd uses mainly JK forum, JK owners and a few others, you would be amazed at how many people will the s*** out of these things

As a matter of fact I think it would benefit us as a community and nc4x4 to dedicate a section to JK's / JL / Tacoma and 4Runner.

So do you say a tech section for more vehicle specific stuff, i bet it would explode!

So to say,,
Leaf sprung
Tj/lj
Jk
JL
Xj,zj,wj
Suzuki
Tacoma,4runner

I have no idea how the form works, I know nothing about that stuff, but it seems like we have wasted space on the form especially in the club section with clubs that havent done anything or said a word in years.

The only problem with that is if you post your build in the brand specific thread then a tip or idea that might help someone building a different brand may not reach them

Just a brainstorm maybe they section for advanced Tech, say 4 and 3 link suspension cage building,
Hand-built and hand fabricated things

Let's say someone was looking for a quality 3 inch lift opinions on a TJ that would go in a TJ section, if someone is wanting to install a 6.0 what a supercharger in a TJ that would be in advance tech, just thinking out loud

The kiddos (well one of them) is getting to the point of going with me so that helps. As big of an asshole as I seem online I play a slightly different role IRL. I try not to stick my wife with two kids all weekend by herself. One which is two and a half...

That's a good idea.

I don't think it's a bad idea, but I think the real draw of NC4x4 is the local nature of the community. Thats why General Discussion has twice the activity of the Tech section.

The only thing I would say about parks building for rigs on ~35s. That only works if you continue to maintain the trails for 35s. Most parks, that I have seen in the SE, as they are rode more, the trail becomes harder and therefore requires bigger tires. So unless they initially work to keep them the same, they will turn into buggy trails.

Racism exists because we see 2 colors
Sexism exists because we see 2 sexes

Let's all just wheel. You little guys watch us big rig guys on the hard stuff. Or, maybe just maybe follow us up and learn more skills. Ain't that right @77GreenMachine and @ncsutj?

Us big tire skoads will eventually break our expensive parts and have the chance to watch the rest of ya'll rig stack your JKs. :flipoff2:

Wheeling isn't a family activity for us either. My wife doesn't like it and my kids haven't shown any interest yet. We do go camping together a few times per year, but I wouldn't feel right leaving them back at camp to go wheel. For me, its got to be a balance between individual pursuits and family time (plus all that other crap that infringes on those two).

Same
Wife doesn't like the rough ride (princess as I call her)
But the kids are all but grown now (2 in college one a senior in HS) so they are usually too busy for "family time" so I get a kitchen pass about once a month
I gave up motorcycles, don't golf, so wheeling and maintaining my property are my only time consumers so I'm good these days. As long as princesses needs are met and she satisfied we've spent quality time together I usually get a 3 to 4 day pass and everything's cool for another month

I have wheeled the same vehicle for 14 years and have seen a change in the wheeling community in that time. I really can't tell if any of it has been for the better. The Uwharrie trail system for me shrinks more and more every year. Groups and clubs run the trails in larger bunches and trail etiquette is pretty much a thing of the past. Alot of times when I go,it's more or less by myself or I might pair up with a friend or two at the most so we can more easily dodge the large groups and then maybe enjoy the ride.
I would love to go out west and experience trail riding there. I'm assuming it is at a slower pace and more technical.

I usually take all 3 my kids when I go. At the very least my oldest girl (and becoming mech) loves going. I want to get the Wrangler going but life (and breakage) keeps getting in my way. At least when it's done, it'll have 33-35 so it'll be more capable of getting stuck and using the winch I'm intending to put on it. Unfortunately, still looking for a 8.25 for it.. wanting to keep it mild and streetable for cruising with the wifey as it's semi nostalgic.

I've got 2 kids and I wish they could go with me. My son is the oldest at 4 right now and my wife still says he's to small to ride with me.

My wife wanted my son to be 6 before going wheeling. I took my Samurai apart when he was 5.5, and that was 2 yrs ago. He hasn't shown much interest in going though anyway.

No interest because the rig isn't driveable maybe?

I'm hoping that my daughter's interest builds by the time I'm done putting my pile of shat back together...that ought to be when she's old enough to sit in the seat and see over the hood...maybe. Considering she's not even 18 months old yet. My wife would never have interest. I think at one point she humored talking about going with me, but that was because she was trying to be supportive. Now any time I mention us going, she says "outdoors? ew..." :shaking:  too much grass, dust, and dirt. Hey, what can I say...she grew up city. That's what she gets for marrying into country folk.

Shoot, I took Dakota and 5 on her birthday to the flats.. eight years ago in this past May. Try to make it yearly birthday thing.. of course that trip was more memorable since my then xj had 33s. Heck it was me and Dakota recently got wife's zj high centered on a rock at the flats with nobody around.. and nothing but the stock jack.. even if I had my high lift or winch, there were no recovery points.. :shaking: looking back now it's funny. I was pretty irritated then though. Oh and I had to get under it to get it in low range , the 42re isn't anywhere near as good in high range, even with 3.73 & stock tires as the aw4. She ran out of torque nosed at the sky.

My boy (oldest) and my youngest girl both like it enough to go occasionally. But none of my 3 LOVE it. My middle child (girl) is just like her mother....doesn't really like the jostling around.

The boy (15 years apart)
