I wanted to look into getting some bed liner type floor stuff in the van. It will be inside and the front half will have carpet over it... Course texture won't be a problem. So.. with that in mind...

Line-X
I was thinking I'd at least get a quote from Line-X but the place in Durham is gone... (Literally the building like folded up and disappeared)

Anyone know anyone in the N. Raleigh/RTP Area who does that and has a good price? I know its $$$$..

Herculiner
The DYI stuff - Seems good/bad depending on what you read... Naturally everyone claims they prepped it properly... Is that the only real issue? This seems to be the most common, and readily available if I needed to do a patch/repair in the future..

RhynoLiner - Anyone Used this ? where do you get this brand?

I did two of the DIY jobs, a CJ7 with Herculiner and an '86 4runner with the Duplicolor stuff that is similar. I was very pleased with the results on both. I spent hours preparing the surfaces with a wire wheel on a grinder, an air sander and then some good surface prep chem. Texture wise I would say they both were a tad rough but the duplicolor a little less so. I have also seen the results of the stuff being sprayed on at home after some thinning with some masking and an undercarriage gun and it comes out nice. I just used rollers.
I based my decision strictly on cost but was very pleased with the results. I think the commercial outfits get a big thumbs up if you are worried about looks.
Here is the herculiner...

Seems like some pretty good stuff. He also has a 4th of July sale going on now. Dang I sound like a commercial.

Line-X, Rhino, and DIY

I want my CJ7 lined. Looked into D.I.Y. versions and it is clearly cost versus quality (or appearence of quality). I will probably end up doing DIY, but here are my notes from pro shops...

Line-X - 785-3337 - 4120 Pleasant Valley Rd
- Everything out = $700
- Colors don't have UV protection. Will fade.

Rhino - 855-0000 - 4810 Signet Dr
- Sort of behind Home Depot on Capital Blvd.
- $650-$700 without Seats.
- Tough Grip (thicker than Hard Liner)
- Can add color for $75.
- - Do have Light Brown. Darker w/ ToughGrip.

BTW - If you do DIY with a spray gun, I'd be highly interested in getting mine done at the same time if possible. Help offset your costs if you have the equipment to do it.

here are some pics of trailer we had lined by LineX of raleigh

Ya those are the prices I've heard thrown around for quotes. And frankly the reason I will likely DIY it...

CJBROWN - If I do DIY it I will likely roll it on. IMHO the time needed to mask everything to deal with possible overspray of the interior, will = extra time spent w/ brush/roller.. If you wanted to do it at my place we could do both at the same time.

I've used the Herculiner quite a few times. Every time I spent alot of time (hours upon hours) with a wire wheel and a sander as well as wiping everything down with acetone when finished and let it dry/air out overnight. I then rolled it on. I have always used two or three coats on floorboards and cargo areas and have been highly pleased with it with the exception of the finish being a little rough. I've always used three or four coats on pickup beds and have been happy with it but I have had some experiences with it peeling up in areas of very heavy and hard use. As far as beds go from now on I'm going to leave it to the pros but for floorboards and cargo areas I'll keep doing it my self. For what you're wanting it for I would go with the Herculiner. I believe you will be happy with it.

My truck has Line-X in the bed for about 2 years. It looks absolutely horrible. The coating has faded to gray in some places and there is no black at all in there anymore. Most of it has a marbled look to it. Glad the previous owner had it done, I'd be pissed if I paid for it.

I am considering Durabak myself. Its maybe slightly more than Herculiner but you get choices. Only drawback is you have to order it instead of picking up a gallon at Northern. http://www.durabakcompany.com/

Just get a quality spraypaint. Don't waste your money if it's going to be covered up. Why would you leave the carpet in there? Wouldn't that trap moisture?

use the duplicolor bedliner. I work for sherwin williams manufacturing division in greensboro and we make it. We are the only plant that makes it so buy it and help us out.

Since this is at least the second post I've seen where you've expressed your disapointment with Line-X...I have to ask...would you post some pictures?

I don't think I've ever seen what you're describing. Yes I've seen all brands fade over time...it's hard to avoid...UVlight is tough. I can't quite picture the 'marbled' look in a liner. Black is pretty hard to screw up without immediate, day ruining results.

PM to Yager. Lemme know.

I had line-x in my s-10 It was in there for 4 years before I sold it and I beat the crap out of it and still stayed looking fine. A few places started coming up around bed side where it was applied over the bed rails and a few little places where I had a nissan truck motor in the bed for a couple days and it flung around beating the crap out the bed. I would say line-x is pretty awesome to with stand the beatings I gave it. Plus if I remember correct it carries a lifetime guarantee.

Maybe I wasn't 100% clear on the van... It will be a dual purpose vehicle. Towing/Camping (inside the van) sorta a hybrid conversion. Not to fancy, but not just tossing a bag on the floor. I plan to cover the walls and ceiling. The very back area say 3-5' in the center near the rear doors etc.. I'd like to be usable for 'junk' . Dirty car parts etc.. I'll likely have a smaller secondary mat down there or even just a piece of whats in the van now.

The center part from behind the front seats to the wheel wells will be sorta nice area. I'd like to add seat for 2 more people. That's the part I want to have carpet. The carpet will be removable and not 'installed' Most likely some indoor out door type.. I'd hope it would breath some.. My reference to carpet for more to address the 'roughness' of the various products.. Fading would not bother me..

My reason for wanting to do the entire cargo area is that it is currently covered by a large fullsize fitted floor mat. But that mat is also kinda spongy and I'd like to take the time NOW before I start adding junk to the van to coat it..

I'll post some tonight. I drove my wife's Trailblazer to work today.

I have seen some Line-X jobs that are very good, and like a paint job you just have to have the right guy doing it. I had a guy at my shop picking up some parts the other day with a killer looking Line-X job. Mine is crap, UV Light killed it, but might have been something in the install too.

I have also heard of people using a tar like substance that is used to seal mobile home roofs. They say it is very durable and cheap. You might look into that yager. I remember reading an article in 4wheeler I believe about it. They said they applied it with a brush and it came out fairly smooth.

I like my Line-X it is a little faded in the little over a year that I have it but, not bad enough for me to have an objection to it. It's in the bed of my truck so, it's always in the sun. I have beat on it pretty good and it seems quite durable. I like it well enough that I am planning to get the inside of my 87 Jimmy trail rig Line-Xed eventually.

Just a thought- Sounds like the main Line-X issue is fading but, since you are putting it inside your van, seems like that really wouldn't be an issue for you, since it wouldn't be in direct sunlight?

Here are some pictures of my Line-X. I hate that it is faded. These pictures are after pressure washing. The shit in the bed is from the rain we had last night and from moving two friends over the weekend, the rippling and fading is always like that.

The line X is much more grease gas resistant.

The Herculiner jobs I have seen can be rubbed off with gasoline regardless of prep.

I have herculiner in the jeep....waste of money imo. I put on 2 coats a few years ago..it faded horribly and my heels wore through both coats under gas/clutch pedals in a matter of months.

Also I think DupliColor makes it? Another knock off brand of Line-X I tried in my K5 back in HS and that was even worse than the herculiner.

Uncle and friends run Line-X on all there equipment....all good things.

Now that I am a vendor on the site I'll throw out another option for ya. Al's Liner is something new to the market. Just was released for sale a few weeks ago and I'm one of the first to be selling it. It is as close to a commercial grade bedliner as you can get in a DIY kit. I sell it in three colors(black, light tan, grey), but I can get you any color you need. I can get you the tint to match it 100% to the color of your truck if you'd like. Plus it is 100% UV-stable and guaranteed not to fade or deteriorate. Just an option. You can check it out in my webpage in my siggy.

I'd be happy to talk to you about spraying Scorpion in your van too, if you'd rather not have to do it yourself.
