as for video I know a few people got video from the stands

I did have an in cab camera setup ready to go and Randal ( driver ) thought he turned it on but I think he did not hit record button hard enough and officials would not let us over wall to make sure it was recording :(

Moving the radiator or reinforcing is not allowed at this derby.

A couple of things happened:
Why did the van cut off? It definitely over-heated, stalled for some reason, and then the engine was too hot to crank over. Did the GM starter relay get heat-soaked? We don't know what it was specifically, but some combination of weak starter and/or weak battery and/or engine internally (temporarily) seizing up and/or advanced timing (which makes an engine harder to crank over) - some or all of these were a factor - so that when the engine got hot, it would only turn over really slowly, so wouldn't start. Once it cooled down after the event, it started right up (using a jump-box, because the battery was drained). Even before the derby, I noticed that it turned over slowly, even though the battery was fully charged, so something was going on that didn't help. We had good cables. Maybe the starter was weak from the get-go? Maybe the timing was advanced from the get-go? We'll have to check that.

Why did it over-heat? During the event, we could see steam coming out the radiator over-flow hose. Before the derby, this hose had always dripped, so maybe the cap is bad and can't hold pressure. But lots of other derby drivers leave the cap one notch loose on purpose so it vents the pressure and doesn't blow a hose. But some don't do that, so who knows? After the event, there was no coolant left in the radiator. Also, the electric fan mounted to the radiator was torn off just from the jolting around - the radiator did *not* get hit by another car. The fan had been mounted using those plastic things that go through the radiator fins into a clip/pad onto the other side, kind of like a zip tie. So did the fan coming off make a hole in the radiator? We never saw steam from over there. Did the fan coming off help it overheat? I'm sure it did. Also, when we had a rear tire go flat, Randal had to use more throttle, which I'm sure helped heat it up. :)

Well here is how my day went..

Got to derby, signed in and then pulled my truck off to side so I was
in line ready to drive in.
Steve shows up and while I am helping him unload we here a load
crash/braking sound.. Richard yells someone hit my truck( drove the
dodge tow rig )
I go over and see I have no drivers side mirror.. a side by side hit
the mirror and completely ripped it off the truck..
so I go up to side by side and guess who gets out.. 2 wake county
sheriffs officers.. I was like are you serious?

needles to say I got a claim number and a report was filled out so I
guess in a few months I may actually get this fixed because we all
know the county will probably take forever..

the good news is Carl R, my dad and myself rigged the mirror back up
so it "works" well enough for derby and to get home.. but it still
needs to be fixed..

Guess I should have drove the jeep and then I wold not have cared if
someone hit it :)


Oh well another day in 4x4 derby life of a cnc'er..

Oh and never mind the girl screaming in the videos as she was standing right next to me and was really annoying.
