my '93 wrangler was stolen out of the parking lot of a 4wd shop near the airport in raleigh on tuesday 4/25. the shop owner didn't "bother" to call & let me know b/c some guy standing by the post on the street told him that some dude said he was the owner, got in, messed around for a while, and drove off in it. i found out thursday 4/27 afternoon when i went by the shop to check on the progress. at that time, the cops were called, etc.
two things really bother me: the first is that i had spent so much time and done so much work on this thing myself (installed lift kit, new tires, refurbished entire interior & electrical, brake lines, etc) and that the shop owner didn't even offer an apology. i ask you fellow jeepers to keep an eye out for my ride and keep an eye on yours. last time i saw it, it was still dark green with a tan hard top, 4in lift, 33s, black wheels, black interior, tan hard top, a crack on the windshield, and a dent on the front of the passenger side fender. the spare was off and i'd removed the radio, license plate & holder, and roll bar to windshield support arms. here's a pic. thanks for any help and hope all of you keep enjoying your rides.

Does the shop owner not have insurance?? If not, I would think he is liable for replacement of it's value

yo man i hope u find it..... u should have the cops investigate the shop to see if they know nething or there "securtiy" isnt up to the standards. but ill keep a look out for ya

Might want to try to find out if this has happened at this guys shop before. You never know...... the shop could be in on this.

the only fourwheel drive shop near the airport that i can think of is 4wheel and Offroad of Raleigh...dude man that sux, hopefully the cops will get them.

The name of the shop is 4-Wheeling of Raleigh; they bill under the name Rear-End Specialists... I know b/c like a trusting idiot, I paid for half of the work up front (to cover parts, etc.) and then, 3 days later, my car dissappeared. Lesson learned: if you decide not to do it yourself, NEVER pay for anything up front. Thanks all for your support and looking out.

If you paid on a credit card, cancel payment on it. They didn't do the work promised or they would have called you and said, "Its ready, come pick it up and pay the balence." Even if they did call you, they can't prove now that the work has been completed to your satisfaction.

The only way their insurance will be able to get out of paying for the replacement is if they had clearly posted signs indicating that they are not liable for theft from their premisis or if it specifically says so on your estimate/contract. You have a reasonable expectation of security when you leave your vehicle in the care of a shop and they have to take reasonable precautions to prevent damage and theft.

Have you seen me? I was stolen sometime around the morning of April 25th from the lot of a shop in Raleigh. My owner put in a lot of hours of knuckle work on me and would like to have me back.

fourwheeling of raleigh is a sketchy place they dont really know what their talking about either
told me all rubicons roll off the lot with 2.5" lift kits on them thats why they come with bigger tires... I left after that.
BOTTOM LINE, STAY AWAY FROM THEM

i had a friend that took his jeep to get regeared to them. After an enormous bill, he gets his jeep back only to discover that the front axle is leaking oil, no biggie, takes it back and asks if they can fix it for free. They come back and tell him that his front axle is bent....his front axle wasn't bent to begin with...there has always been something fishy going on down there...

Dayum. I'll keep a look-out between Reidsville/Greensboro/Durham for you. I hope you get your Jeep back in one piece. Good Luck

update

sorry for the delay in posting an update, my internet connection had been down and life, in general, has been very hectic lately. anyhow, no news from the cops or anyone else. the cops haven't actively searched for it- they've got more important things to do, i guess. they pretty much said that a bunch of them get stolen and it's one of those things that if it happens to turn up, so be it.
i tried to settle this rationally with the shop owner and he basically blew me off. now, i've got to get a lawyer and go through all these hassles.
i'm keeping my eyes peeled and thank all of you for doing the same. it's really frustrating seeing all these jeeps out and about. by the way, if you've got a jacked up yj and notice some "maniac/weirdo" shadowing you and trying to pull you over to check out your ride, i apologize in advance but my emotions sometimes get the better of me!
again, thanks all and i'll keep you posted on how it goes down.

some how im not suprised. 4wheeling of raleigh has a bad reputation, although ive been told otherwise. were you dealing with edward? good luck with all that

puttin' my money where my sorrow is...

alright, so, every day i see some fixed up jeep/ truck/ suv and it ticks me off. actually, it kinda depresses me b/c it reminds me of just how much work i put into mine. everything from installing the lift to hand-sanding/ priming/ painting any surface rust on the frame, interior and under-carriage to the rhino-lining to fixing the interior courtesy lights and electrical to... well you get the point. it makes me wonder if it's worth it to put that much effort into something material that some self-serving low-life can take away.
i guess it could be worse, i just heard about some lady whose ex-husband jacked her kids and skipped off to ghana with them.
anyway, i don't have a ton of money, but i'm offering a reward (yes, cash $$$) for any information that leads to the retrieval of my jeep.
again, i thank all of you for keeping an eye out and hope you continue to enjoy your rides.

Even if you make it so strong and build it like a fort...it still can be taken away by some bottom feeder See here

Point is, enjoy what you do, but don't put your faith in being able to keep it.
