is anyone else pissed off at the new trend of extending the swing arm on the back of motorcycles? I love bikes. You respect the Hogs, the Cruisers are just nice bikes, Sports are fun and practical, and even the rice rockets are nice machines. But recently i see all the crotch rockets on capital boulevard that have the rear swingarm extended so the bike is longer and lower. You just ruin a bike by making it even more impractical and making it ugly. also i'm pissed off because i almost got hit today by some idiots on Capital. Has anyone else seen that "Gang" of black bikers (and about 3 white guys) that ALWAYS sits at the Han-D-Hugos on Capital blvd? they came tearing through traffic runnin on white lines and doing wheelies (about 35 bikes in all) and i go to switch lanes and suddenly theres bikes passin me twice my speed and i almost took out a good 8 of them. Then i realized that now almost 90% of their bikes had the back tires sticking out like 15 inches too far. I should have smashed them all......

hahhahah

I am not laughing at you but at them...

I am a Biker and I ride to work and on the weekends as much as possible... but I must laugh at all these guys.. they honestly think they are gods gift to bikes... and the funny part is I stopped and checked a few out once and some are just plain slapped together and look like shit.. do not get me wrong some very nice work.. but I still think it is a waste of money to stretch the rear..

They need to stretch the rear because they don't know how to ride and if they were to ride it stock it would flip over on them.
Also they don't know foot pegs are for the feet and if you know how to ride you don't need their feet to hold the bike up at 20 mph up to 50 mph.
Time for them to learn to ride or go kill there self so that they don't reproduce.
They were holding out at the BP and I went to get fuel one time and when I went in to pay they had most of the pumps blocked so I told the guy I would never be back because of safety reasons. Also told him they were talking about taking his money.( just BS him.)
Funny thing when we left he locked the door and cops come from all over. we pull over across the road to watch them run like a roach in the light.

I've never owned a stretched bike and have never wanted one, but...ridged "bar bikes" are just as useless in my book. They look nice, ride like shit, and cost a pile o' cash to build or buy. If the guys actually take them to the strip then I guess you can say they have a use for the extended arm, if not, it's like pounding the mall in your badass TJ. Same difference, different strokes for different folks. I'd never put a set of 26"s on an old Caprice, but who am I to bash it, they probably think my past jeeps are a waste of cash.

Those extended swing arms are dangerous as hell. Takes all the weight off the rear tire. Some inexpirienced rider hits the throttle too hard in a curve (it doesn't take much with the long swing arm) and it's coming out from under you.

you completely ruin all of the engineering and design that went into the suspension... sport bikes are made to carve, not drag.

although I agree with you in theroy...go to Rockingham and watch them run close to 200mph on the strip.

i've seen it... and been on one that trapped ~150-160. i still don't understand it though. to each their own i guess, kinda like the whole mud vs. rocks thing.

I understand the whole "riding like and idiot" and endangering other people but i love what some of you guys have to say...If it's not what you like then it is the dumbest thing in the world.....good waste of money. I wonder how many people say that about our rock crawlers and jacked up trucks. Same thing about cutting fenders and extending wheelbases. I think whatever floats your boat. If it fits your purpose or wants and desires.. more power to you.
I ride harleys and sport bikes....as soon as i can afford it i will be extending my swingarm also, although not as far.. only 3-6 inches but it makes a big difference when putting so much power to the ground with such a light bike. Like i said..whatever makes you happy.

oh yea. Watch a street crotch rocket whip up to 150mph real quick then tell me extendeds are dumb. yea they are dumb on the street though, thats for all the ghetto thugs that cant ride get them so the front dont pull up on em.

I thought rideing on the back wheel was part of the fun with a sport bike.

Man, how can you not love a car with trimmed fenders adn a lift? :huggy:

My problem lies in the guys that were at Rockingham last time, and out of the ~20 bikes, <5 were turning sub 10.5 second times. ALL of 'em were big bore bikes, ZX-12, busas, etc.. all of which can run low low 10's or even 9's STOCK with a great rider.

But are they stock? No way! They're lightened, all have pipes, jet kits/tuners, etc.. and they should have almost no issues with the front tire, so mid to high 9's should be expected, as long as the rider knows which lever does what... But noooo... 11's mostly.. some 10's, and then a few, very few, low 10's & 9's.

For a reference, I took my near stock (only had a slip-on can) VFR800 sport-tourer and ran a 11.2. 101hp (as opposed to 150+ for them), and 580lbs wet... and I'm no pro drag bike racer by any means. I just don't get it. (And yes, sportbikes are made to carve corners, not avoid them)

I had a guy ask me "When are you gonna stretch the swingarm?" on my VFR.. also a single-sided arm...

I don't know what irritated me more... the thought that somehow you aren't a rider UNLESS you have an extended swingarm, or that he was looking at the right side of my bike and couldn't tell.

OTOH, this was in Fayette-nam, and though there are some excellent riders in that area, the other 99% are straight-liners.

I knew ONE GUY that would ride from there up to us and head up to shady valley (just past mountain city where 421 gets super curvy) then ride back home. He was in the army and learned to ride elsewhere

even HE said there was nothing but posers in fayette-nam

It's pretty even here..being were SO close to good roads. I rarely see stretched bikes.

What we DO have is an abundance of chromers. I can't believe these kids know their chromers name and number by heart but have never heard Ohlins, or think penske is just the name of a rental truck

Penske.. don't they own a NASCAR team?

I hear ya, Troy...

There is a group I ran with who call themselves the Old FARTS - I was allowed in despite my age (and lack thereof)

(They never figured out the "T" but no one cares.. )

I was very tempted to buy that guy's TT600 from the classifieds.. but ugh, this isn't the right time.
