Anybody else see the guys walking around out on the trails today? We saw probably 6 total on various trails we were on. They were all on foot. Most were wearing a backpack and several were carrying a two way radio of some sort. Saw a couple of them with clip boards too. They weren't very friendly when we spoke or waved to them as we passed by. One even turned his back to us as we passed him. Anybody here know who they might have been or what they were up to? Just kinda strange to say the least.

Go back tomorrow and just start taking pictures of them. Whey they start whining the ask what the heck the clipboards are for!?

Or just get your own clipboard and follow them around.

Last time I saw those guys they were doing some art project, saw a couple every trail. I thought it was usfs or some shit, but they were doing some scenery project for a class.

I stopped and ask one of them what he was up to. Said he was observing the trails. I said" going to be like observing trails at Tellico." He acted like he did not know what I was talking about. I said are you with the FS. He indicated so. I told Web on the radio after leaving I did not believe him. They may have been military but were not dressed as such. Could be a class at NC State or a local college. Don't know seamed strange to me. Thought it worth an inquiry.

Many years back the Sierra Club (or some other such group) used to walk through the OHV park. Then present a list of issues to Ranger Tom.

Tell me - how many of you are going to really be surprised when a lawsuit pops up to close the trails?

 I won't be surprised. I expect it.

x2.

Face it guys, the enviromentalists aren't going anywhere. And all it takes is one of us acting like an idiot to fuel their fires.
Example: If you sat and observed Rocky Mtn Loop all day, would you remeber the dozens of vehicles that rode by uneventfully, or the one vehicle that beat the ever-living hell out of the rocks, breaking parts, and spilling fluid all over the place? Do you notice how clean the trails are, or do you notice how clean they aren't? I hate to say it this way, because it doesn't sound right, but if we don't police ourselves, they will. And if we leave it up to them, we won't have anywhere to wheel.

In a way...I feel like you are preaching to the choir.
What you are saying is absolutely 100% true, I just cant help thinking that most folks on here are the ''good'' apples.
At least, if they have spent much time on here, they all know what is to be expected from a responsible wheeler.

That said...I think most of the ''retards'' that are hurting our sport, are the ones that are not associated with this forum or any clubs.

THEY are the ones we need to reach. I dont know how, but we all need to do a better job of making these folks know what we are up against and how their stupidity is starting to piss us all off. Not to mention, their ignorance is giving our sport the proverbial Black eye.

We as clubs and forum members need to figure out how to get these folks to understand the need for a change.

Maybe something as dumb and simple as , someone write up some wheelers etiquette rules. Have them printed up, and we take turns passing them out at the Outpost, The HotDog Guys CART, on the trails, and everywhere else we see fit.
It would seem dumb at first glance, but eventually the word might spread to the bad apples too.
Just a thought.

Well said. I completely agree. The question is how do you do that?

Sad thing is they'd prob turn into more trail trash because the people we are trying to reach don't care.
