"The Ice Cream Getter"

I like that dash. Did you build it our buy it? Well the defrost still be functional?

Thanks, I built it. It is actually the second one I have built for it, I ended up not liking the layout of the gauges on the first one I built, but the first one did have the rectangular holes for the windshield defroster. As you can see this second one does not have the holes for the defroster. I am sure there will be some point where I will wish I had the vents open and I guess I could add them later. The Jeep will be garage stored all the time and topless for 90% of it's life. If it is nice enough for no top and doors, I hope I won't need the defroster either.

Sounds logical!

I like it! Simple, easy, funtional.

Yeah, I have been messing with it lately, along with some other projects. Here is a pic of the engine bay and two videos. I have a problem though. I have been having a clicking noise coming from the drivetrain on deceleration. I have not been able to pinpoint it. It does not seem to be the front auto locker, because it does it on a straight line deceleration, not corning. It does not do it on acceleration. Driveshafts are new, rear end has a spool in it. I am thinking it is in the Tranny or the T-case.

The other problem I have is last night the internal slave cylinder blew up and spewed brake fluid all over the ground. I am not sure what happened there either becuse the slave was brand new as well. I am wondering if it could have over traveled or something weird. I am thinking about switching to an external slave setup, but I will need to find an AX15 bellhousing and Bearing retainer plate for the front of the tranny if I want to switch to that. Anyone have either of these? I have thought about trying to possibly shim the internal slave to get it closer to the pressure plate fingers but this style slave does not bolt to the retainer plate, it just floats on a pin so I am unsure of how I could shim it. I will have more info once I pull it apart tonight.

Videos are awesome. I just swapped from internal to external slave when I rebuilt my drive train. Stupid noises are awful to find. When I put the 8.8 in mine I had a clicking. I played with the drive shaft angle for days. It ended up being the e-brake cable hitting a wheel weight. It would only do it when it wanted to. I was pulling my hair out. FYI I have a internal slave if you need one.

Looks really awesome and clean. Hats off. These build threads like yours have a way of inspiring and embarrassing me simultaneously as I see how far my skills have to go. Keep it up.

I never really looked into that actually. I already have a mechanical speedo so I will probably just go with the VSS adapter.

Hey Newcomer. Great build btw! I'm putting a 5.3L in my postal and have some questions about the mechanical speedo output on the t-case you're running for the NP231. I'm trying to convert my 97 xj t-case that i'm running to a mechanical speedo output and would like to know how the Dakota Digital VSS adapter worked for you and if you could snap a pic or two of the t-case output for me? I'm trying to figure out if i can just convert the electronic speedo output to the old style mechanical output using the old parts so my VSS can work using the Dakota Digital VSS pass-thru adapter that I bought. Thanks for any input. Love the videos of this thing running. It sounds and looks awesome! Very very clean LS swap!

Hey, I am sorry, I have not been on here in months. This project is still not complete, it is basically at the same point it was at in June. I have not been able to really work on it due to being too busy with work, been out of town a lot lately. I actually dropped this thing off at a buddies house for him to build a cage for it about two months ago and it is still over there. If I can make it over there, I can snap some pictures of the output for you. You may have this all sorted out by now, I don't know. I can't really tell you how the VSS generator worked out for me because I have not really driven this thing much. It does seem as though the ECU is getting the speed signal because the engine is not doing an weird idling when I come to a stop or anything like that, so if that is any indication then it may be working just fine.

So, if anyone cares about this old thread, this thing is finally pretty much done. Finally finished the cage, I still have some details to work out but it is on the road legally. I will be pulling the AX15 back out this winter for a rebuild or replacement, it is making bad noises.....

Damn, I bet that thing is a blast to drive! You might check in to an NSG370 to swap in. IIRC, it should be a direct swap or close to it and those transmissions are pretty stout. The guys at Novak said they run them behind mild 6.0s and big tires and they've held up well.

That thing is just so awesome! I don't like Jeeps, but I like this one. It's simple looking and not flashy, but there's a lot of cool fab work and such done that's not noticeable, but I definitely appreciate all of it and I know what kind of time and work was put in to it.

Thanks guys, as most of you have mentioned, the Jeep is very simple, plain, not flashy. That was really my theme with the Jeep, just keep is simple and functional. It is still a lot of fun to drive. It isn't for sale just yet, but I am sure at some point it will be.

Oh cool! Not sure how this build has evaded me but glad I'm finally looking at it. Very nice sir!

Did you have any gas tank clearance issues? I am running the same springs and rear axle in my yj and even after beating the skid in, the rear axle still hits the tank.

Awesome build!

I think the color is good! Now just get you some black or gray seat covers to cover up that ugly brown!:D
