So without going into to much detail and word vomiting a long story, sold my Dodge and paid off my Jeep and now I have zero car payments. First time since I was 18 that I haven't had a vehicle payment, crazy what a difference it makes. Big thanks to @77GreenMachine @rcalexander105 @CasterTroy and @BigClay for the push and motivation.

Anyways Phillip finally talked me into looking for a Chevy, I have nothing against them just wasn't the first pick. Really want to find an 8.1 truck because Big Block :D, but all the 4wd 8.1 trucks were stretching the budget more than I wanted to at the moment. So 6.0 it was. Found a truck down in Myrtle, hit up @Joe J. and Phillip for a road trip and off we went.

Drove her the few hours back and man do these truck ride smooth, it's like a car compared to the 06 Cummins and 99 7.3 (Duh) I had. Pretty sure I got 14ish mpg on the way back which is far better than the Cummins ever got, plus gas is cheaper. Once getting home I ordered all the essentials for a used vehicle, plus tow mirrors, new headlights, and rocker covers.

Door pins on the drivers door were FUBAR. Door basically dropped 3/4" when you opened it, pretty sure they used it as a ladder or something to wear that bad.

New tow mirrors and headlights really brightened the truck up.

Cut most of the bad out and slapped on some POR15. Then on went the Bushwacker rocker covers, great $80 solution for ugly rust.

So now onto the finically irresponsible part, more of a joke but still.

Hit up @Croatan_Kid because stock is boring, I am a hot rod/car guy at heart, to discuss what the common bolt on stuck was along with some tuning options. Looking at doing Speed engineering long tubes and they're X pipe at a minimum. Doubt I'll run their full exhaust jut because it'll likely be to loud which would be fine with me except the fact it's a tow rig. Likely going to get a pair of resonators going into some sort of flow through muffler (dynomax or magnaflow). Next will likely be the HD electric fan coversion from the later model trucks along with a "CAI" because looks. Eventually there may even be a cam and TBSS/NNBS intake swap but we'll see. Still need to prove the truck is trustworthy to me.

Tuning I'm most likely going the HP Tuner path as it appears to be the best platform for money along with I'll be able to use in my shop for LS swaps, diagnostics, tune flashes, etc.

The last thing that is more of a want is a flat bed. Both fender wells have rot and lets just say the bed floor is kind of like walking on a firm mattress. Been looking closely at Mid-State as they the most economical. Likely just go basic and add the options I want myself to save funds and not shell out 4k on a bed all at once. looking at something like this and add the boxes later on along with building sides since I haul trash and carboard quite a bit.

a burn barrel will help out with that cardboard. Or a woodstove in the shop.

I also throw some under vehicles/rigs that leak fluid. Makes easy cleanup when the cardboard catches the drips. Also make above much more efficient.

I have their flatbed on my dually. Its pretty good for the money. PM me if you want any specific questions answered or pictures.

Yeah @Curtis_H does too on his and I've looked it over. Seems like the easier route than to find a non-rusted Chevy bed.

I live in the Communist sector of Forsyth county, not aloud to open burn or I would. Not trying to attract anymore attention to myself than I already do.

I got a brand new CM RD2 flatbed from the Big Tex dealer in Greensboro for $2200 out the door a few weeks ago. LED everything, 30k pound built in gooseneck and 18,500lb rated receiver. Plus it was a heck of a lot longer and wider (97" wide, 112" long), so more raw material involved. Not sure how much the Midstate one is, but that was by far the cheapest price I could find on one for my truck.

That's cheaper than they are, I'll reach out to them.

Plus it was a heck of a lot longer and wider (97" wide, 112" long), so more raw material involved. Not sure how much the Midstate one is, but that was by far the cheapest price I could find on one for my truck.
X2, good folks up there. Gave me the bed at cost. Mid state is like 30 minutes down the road but I couldn't justify the cost over the CM bed

I had that exact same truck in '07 trim. It rode like crap empty because it was ordered with HD springs. AND it only had a 20 gal gas tank so I had to stop for fuel more than I liked. But it was a solid truck. I had Dino at LSX Tuning put a tune on it and it really woke it up. I never put the exhaust on it that I needed but it still filled the bill.

You know they didn't make 20 gallon tanks...right? 99-07 classics had 26 gallons for short beds and 34 for long beds. 07.5+, don't remember exactly, but nothing that small.

Superchargers are way more fun for towing...and then you don't have to do the intake swap and can still do headers :D

I mean I'm totally not opposed to boost. Especially since I can bolt in a Duramax intercooler.

I happen to have an intercooler sitting around...when we doing this? Although, most setups come with water to water aftercoolers these days. A TVS2300 would look right at home all up in there. Then you can overdrive it with the rear pulleys and run a cog gear setup to get that extra whine.

I love spending other people's money.
