The "Taco Truck"

What size was that pipe you added for the muffler delete? Maybe it's deceiving because of the shear SIZE of the components under there, but it LOOKED like a 3" exhaust.

While no expert, I would imagine a 4" full turbo back would certainly aid in lowering EGT's

I would add an intercooler for sure if it don't have one. With the grades and load you will be pulling that should help a ton. Also make sure you have the big good air filter on there, which I think you mentioned already you did.
I didn't realize it wasn't intercooled.

I agree that an intercooler will be nice, but I don't think it will help EGTs much if any. Biggest thing to help EGTs is larger exhaust. The downpipe is likely a big limiter. How much room do you have there? A 4" turbo back should be enough. The shorter the exhaust helps also.

You will want to verify what the values should be on the gauge. IIRC, the post turbo EGTs should be lower than pre-turbo.

I disagree... especially when talking about a 9-10k# (guesstimated) brick that'll be TOWING 5-7k# additional. Cooler charge in = cooler EGT out

Agree... open it up to the largest you can fit! While nobody will offer "kit" for that rig ?), you'll likely be able to piece it together (downpipe, a few bends, lot's of tube, & some clamps) fairly reasonably...

I vote do both! :D

I have an intercooler you could possible make work. All alum out of a hemit new in the crate!

Intercooler will help overall power and efficiency which will slightly aid in lower EGTs. The main thing is like said above. Let the air get in and back out as much as possible and unrestricted as possible.

So the verdict is in....
You need a hood stack.

I would do both as you said. While the intercooler will help for certain, the cooler charge in will only help if it increased fuel isn't added. Combustion temps are going to stay the same, so you don't gain much. As mentioned, the biggest difference is the engine is running better and making more power, meaning you can stay out of the throttle more.

Allowing the heat to escape the engine faster keeps it from heat soaking parts as quick, and therefore lowers EGTs.

^^^ all I got from this is he agrees you need a hood stack...

I pulled the jeep today to the tuners and on flat ground I was around 850 egt slight hill or getting into it around 1050-1100. I got up to around 1200 plus and coulda went higher pulling a pretty good hilli pulled it back into third gear on the hill and the temps fell to 900 at about 42 mph. I was happy with that really.
I think I'm going to drive it some more loaded jus to see how it does. May even take a Black Mountain trip.
It does have 3" exhaust. If needed I may up the exhaust size first or possibly a larger turbo housing. Been kicking around the idea of an inner cooler too but don't have a lot of room. Whats the dimensions of yours @snappy and what's the price?
The water/meth method has also been mentioned as a possibility.
Also was told if I turn the star wheel in it would fuel more before boost and help keep the temps down. Anyone know anything about this?
I weighed this thing today and it weighed 13,500. Total groos weight with the jeep and trailer was 22,600 lbs if I remember right.

Really not looking to spend much more money. Between this thing and the jeep fun money is running low.

IIRC, (haven't had a 12valve in 5 years) the magic number batted around on the Cummins forums is around 1300*-1350* pre-turbo (so there's some cooling post-turbo) and believe that is somewhat sustained... meaning that it won't instantly melt pistons the second it hits ;)

Have heard about 100-ish* lower EGTs associated with 3" to 4"...

 dat things a pig! :D

Speaking of King, where's the other resident C expurt? @Ron

I hate to say it but the Taco Truck is for sale
I know some of you said youd love to have something like this...now is your chance!
I would also like to sell my 2010 model 35' tagalong camper. Having two campers has proved to be a lot of work. So I figure if I can sell both I could possibly buy a pretty nice diesel pusher camper that would take the place of both. Both being a crawler hauler but nice enough for the wife to just do family camping.
I will make a for sale ad soon and offer it to nc4x4 guys before I put it on craigslist or eBay.
If anyone is interested feel free to message me and we can talk.
