Probably not the best site for a hot rod build but eh who cares! I sold my rig last fall and needed a project to keep myself busy. I picked up This 1992 Notchback for reasonable so I got in June. It was a former SC highway patrol car and factory color is Bimini blue. I got the car under primer and lets just say the primer was hiding some bad body work. ( which I have spent the last 3 months cutting out and fixing right) My goal for the car was simple build a quick coupe that is a jack of all trades but a master of none. PO had stripped the trunk carpet and front bumper support for weight savings. Car had a stock 306 from summit racing with only 30mi per the PO. I pulled the valve cover and discovered it has 289 heads which led me to believe it was a flat tappet motor and not roller. My goal was to have this car done before Rod Run in pigeon forge TN but that was last weekend and the car still sits lol. My buddy is a body man and is doing all the paint & body work free of charge.
The day I brought it home Current engine which is carb I am converting it back to FI and have had to source every part involved!
I call the car WARHORSE because I have spent a war pension on building it! I am building it the way I have always envisioned. 2003 model brakes with 4 wheel disc and 93 cobra master cylinder. 17x9 Saleen SC wheels and Dunlop tires. A forged 306 with every nut and bolt ARP. Trick Flow twisted wedge heads. Motorsport E Cam. Ported exploder GT40 manifold. 24lb injectors with matching BBK MAF. 1'' Phenolic spacer. 190 LPH Walbro pump MSD streetfire Distributor. Moroso ultra 40 wires and NGK plugs Full array of autometer phantom gauges. QA1 tubular K frame and UPR coilover suspension. New Monroe struts. (not a drag car build just a quick street coupe)
Engine sits assembled on the stand waiting to be installed along with the 03 brakes wheels and suspension. The paint has fought me the whole way. I am only able to work on the paint and body Wednesday after work and on the weekends and we have took several weekends off.
Jody's was a dam nice car I wish I had the coin when it sold as well. This is my 3rd mustang and I just cant get away from them. Suspension wise they are the BEST cars to build. They have a massive aftermarket following in every category. I have dumped a fortune in this thing already and plan on a supercharger or turbo system latter down the road. I am building this one to run good look good and stop good!.
Well the build is changing directions again lol I scored a used vortech V1 supercharger with 10-12lb pulley. As soon as its painted and everything is assembled she will be headed to Redline Tuning to get a dyno tune. Hoping for 450 RWHP. On a conservative tune.
My Saleen knock offs! Going to run a 245/40/17 on all four corners but the rear may get changed for a bigger 275/40/17 later depending on traction and clearance lol.
Hopefully get the doors painted tomorrow and cleared. My buddy has been sick with a sinus infection and I haven't touched the car for 2 weeks & I am so ready for it to be done!
Thank you sir! I think they will look real good with the blue. I know about ditching the quad shocks but I'm pretty sure the rear of the car has been lowered. It had a tire rub issue on the drivers side and I corrected it with a dremel tool lol. But the PO had 255.60.15 truck tires on the back too.........
It has been a slow go as of late. I have realized it wont be finished with time to enjoy it this year so we have been taking it easy. got the passengers door bolted on last night and aligned (what a bastard) I have new weatherstrip roof rail molding door belt molding to install. Then repaint all the black door trim above the window glass. I'm just ready to put the new motor and supercharger on and LET IT EAT!! More to follow............
