I saw that, lots of lives will never be the same. Very sad.

Not really a tragedy though.
It absolutely is a tragedy for multiple folks on multiple levels.

You can take the stance that the "victim" brought it on himself (not the time for that IMHO) but that discounts the driver , the other competitors who witnessed it and the event staff ...they are all affected by this as well.

Very sad. TBFTGOGGI

Not to mention the family and friends of the deceased.

Sad.....I hate it for the driver that due to one persons lapse in common sense has to carry this for the rest of his life. Prayers to all involved.

I can't believe it doesn't happen more often w/ the Baja and other big races, people get crowded so close to the track, I would be scared as a driver.
A little surprised word hasn't spread around the news outlets

Iam very surprised someone hasn't been hurt at one if those rock bouncer type events. Always seems to be a lot of ppl looking for a tree to hide behind when it's backfliping back down the hill toward the crowd. That's going to be a tough pill to swallow for the driver and co-driver.

Looks like more info is starting to make its way public.

Guy (Chris/victim) had a camera set up at a gap jump and was tending to it during the race. Looks like the rear tire of the race car clipped him and threw him into a tree or something like that.

The car was on course but about 3' off from the typical line taken by everyone. So, looks like the car was on course but taking a different line for whatever reason.

Regardless, it's tragic and I hope nothing else like this happens in the sport.

Still not sure who the driver was

Rally is the same way. I cringe when I watch it. Sliding, half out of control high hp cars within feet of spectators.

This is older stuff, but it hasn't changed except the cars are even more insane 600hp and 2Klbs

I always cringe watching some of the videos of the hill climb/rock bouncers, and I say every time that it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. Ive never understood why people want to crowd the course in any of these events. IMO it's not worth my life or getting hurt. I can see just fine from a distance.

...... either way, this is a sad accident for many and all involved. Just goes to show how in this sport a momentary lapse in judgement was a moment too long. Alot of lives were changed.

Its not just one particular motor sport, its all of them that have spectators that those that get to close can get hurt. Drag racing, motocross, rock bouncing, hell even cycling.

Things happen at those kind of speeds and conditions. Talent is important but I think luck is just as needed.

Apparently the key is to not drive a hatchback or older BMW.

Same reason you won't see me in the front few rows of a mud, drag or circle track event. Sad day for all involved over a lapse in judgement.

Prayer go up for all involved, very sad. I've also wondered why it hasn't happened already. I had some close calls on different occasions racing harescrambles with some spectators. I clipped some dude at a race with the handlebars and got the raw end of that deal nearly high siding. What I fear most for the sport is insurance pressure................don't they rule along with King Obummer as it is???

Insurance will definitely be reviewing the incident to manage their risk.

While the dude made his way to an unauthorized area, risk management dept will look at it as a partial failure of the organizer because there was likely not sufficient of a barricade/security to keep someone from easily making their way on course.

I have no knowledge of the course and how it was set up, I'm just speculating from 1600 miles away behind the computer.

Exactly, that's why I said "any" of these events. I'm really surprised it doesn't happen more often. Maybe that's why there's no real outcry because of the fact that it is rare.

Hate to say it but I call these rare occasions "self cleansing of the gene pool". :flipoff2:

Use common sense people... Geez! Hop a closed off boundary to take a selfie on a happening race course??? Really??? :shaking:

I think back to my street racing days. Get 20 people standing at the 1/4 mark with cameras in hand while two cars going well over 100mph a few feet away. Lol glad I drove most of time
