Urban deep water crossings...

got some frineds in rpd and they let me play on roads others didnt get to. i pulled 5 cars out of water with my truck in an office parking lot by crabtree, then three more random ones. other places. i didnt charge the parked ones but i charged the 2 idiots i saw drive into it and sink.
also got to have water fording contests tween my truck and an H1. i got height advantage but that thing is still tough in water.
then i drove in the parking deck before they put all the police tape up. deepest i went barely got my floorboards wet which was about 42", however going too fast in that water is bad, had to dry out my own engine once. fun day

Ok so i was so jealous that my little bro and I decided to put the custom grooved 38.5x14.5 tsl sx's that I got for my blazer on my truck and see how far out the boat ramp in our neighborhood I could drive b4 it went into the cab, ended up making it past the dock beside the ramp b4 I had to stop, Curious to see how far I can go when i put my blazer on those same tires cause I'll have a snorkel and won't care bout getting water in the cab as long as its not above my head.

Oh and thats my little bro trying to model beside my truck :shaking:

A fellow soldier and friends decided to go play in the mud yesterday, got stuck in a '06 tacoma TRD in a "dry" lakebed. We went to recover him today @ 18:30, and now there is a full pond where he "parked"
The truck is in the middle of a 12' deep pond!

Sounds familiar! We got this one out with the help of a 20k PTO winch.

So a no go for pulling him out, and i hope he has good insurance. I'd believe a 100 year flood. Reminds me of '99 down east near ECU and surrounding areas

Now that is funny (I guess), but it sucks too. Take some pics (pond full and not). Wonder what the insurance company would say about that...

Ricky.. where are your axle vents? yup, thought so.. might wanna change your diff fluid.

:shaking: Why would you needlessly back up into a boat ramp??

Do I honestly need to answer that question? Cause its cool thats why  lol

I think the funny would have been if you reached the end of the ramp and you rear tires fell off into the muck

Yea I was kinda worried about that, i was goin super slow when I got out to the dock cause I didn't want to drop all of a sudden. I work in the service Department at a boat place so I'm always pickin people up/droppin em into the water and I've had trailers fall off the end B4 when the water level is low.

Actaully I got lines runnin up to the frame rails on both, plus i got the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty on my diffs from 4WP so it'd actually be sweet if they decided to blow cause then I get brand new 4.88's and rear detroit EZ locker for free :driver:

So you would intentionally neglect something just because it is under warranty?!?!?!? WTF ?!?!?!

I wouldn't count on that warranty if you burn it up due to contaminated fluid.

I know if I opened up a diff and found it full of water, we would be having a long chat about that warranty before you got anything free.

Check and /or change your fluid before you roast something.

DO NOW!

up north when the ice startes to break up in the spring off rivers and streams, entire communities end up under water. The ice will cause a dam as it pushes out into the great lakes and the water will cover roads farm fields and so on. It gets so bad in rural areas, you can't tell where the road is compared to the field.....until you go in the ditch. I will post some pics if i can find them. Bad part is the water temp is in the 30's/40's and if you get stuck, better to call 911 and get on the roof then try and walk away! i was part of the cold water rescue on the fire dept. and we have had many people die of hyperthermia, or drown in ditches while still in their car (farm ditches are 6-12 ft deep).

Hey,

not that it makes any difference to me, but i'm pretty sure the 4WP's warrenty is a no-questions asked policy. they'll replace it even if they're improperly set-up. the flip side of that is I would imagine you'd be responsible for labor costs, unless it was a defect in their product originally. i'd personally prefer to avoid the down-time all together tho. but to each their own.

happy trails,
bigmac

I had a dentist's appointment at 11 yesterday morning, and the office is right there off Lake Boone. At that point, the pond was fully covering the street, but I didn't notice until I was pretty much into it...fortunately I made it across with no troubles, but it was dicey...
oh yeah, that was in my '69 Beetle...
I guess they do float!

Yea its is a no questions asked and it covers labor as well, which is why until the warranty wears out I am not gonna worry bout my diffs, I already had em service em once under warranty fer free. Plus my truck is not a daily driver, matter of fact I don't drive it anymore unless i have to tow my trailer or something which ends up being maybe one day a week so if it breaks no big deal, cause another part of the 4WP warranty is free towing so pretty much I don't have to sweat it if it decides to blow up, and i get free brand new gears and locker for only payin like an additional $300 when I bought it all!

I'd suggest heading to Lowe's or Home Depot *right now* and buying a dehumidifier.

haha, we(Lowes at crossroads) sold out of sump pumps by 5 that day, there were a lot of pissed off people in the plumbing department.

Damn.. and a $25 bucket of gear oil would prevent the need to have the warranty.. but hell, what do I know.. :flipoff2:

Yea, but I mean, gear oil after it's had water and crap in it smells SOOOOO BAD.
Who wants to get that in their garage or worse on their hands?
:D
I'm changing mine tomorrow just to be safe, and I didn't drive through anything much over my bumper.
of course if I blow mine up, I could talk the boss into letting my get a new rear axle or at least regear.
*wonders how long gears last with no diff fluid :D *
(and hopes wife isn't reading here)

I know of atleast one person on this board who works at 4wp. He'd probably like to read some of this thread.

I know if I worked there, and had a customer with that attitude about it, I'd do my best to void that warranty.

If you would properly break-in those gears, change out contaminated fluid, and take care of your equipment in general, you could have saved that $300 up front.

Granted simple maintanence would prob keep me safe but I knew the 10 bolt IFS combo isnt that strong in the first place plus i like the idea of not having to worry a bit about it.

I have no bad feelings toward blowin up my stuff and takin it to 4WP to get them to give me all new stuff for free cause:

- I paid them for them to provide those services, if you pay for someone to do something then you shouldnt feel bad if you make them do it, I don't know about ya'll but I don't give people my $$ for them to not back up what they say there gonna do
- If 4WP doesnt like people breaking there stuff and bringing it in then simple they can stop offering the warranty to people when they get there stuff installed
- if the person is on here that works for 4WP, (nothin against the poeple who do work there, they have always been pretty decent to me) but if that person wants to give me a hard time he can blow me cause its not up to him anyway, and if he wants to give me a hard time for some corparate company that wouldn't back him up for crap and considers paying insurance $$ to be able to offer the warrantys no big deal then he's not the brightest apple in the tree in my opinion

Main issue is, I paid for a service, they are obligated to provide the service weather they like it or not, and if they don't like it then well they shouldn't have offered it in the first place, and its there own daggum fault and im not gonna hesitate to excersise the service that they agreed to offer in exchange for my $$$.

I would like to see the fine print for this 'warranty'

For all ya'll unbelievers I checked today and where I routed my diff breathers were both above the water when I drove in so no water in the diffs for me :flipoff2: lol, I'd like to think I'm not that dumb.

Which brings me to my next question, everytime someone drives in water you guys always say, check your diff fliud. What about when you back a boat down a ramp? Nobody checks there fluid after doing that. All three of our vehicles at the Boat place I work at have there rear axle submerged several times a day to pickup/puttin boats yet never had diff problems for all the years we've owned them? One has a 10 bolt rear one has a 14 bolt rear and one has the dodge dually 1 ton rear (dana 60???) and they've never given us any diff probs and I know they don't have diff breathers routed up anywhere
