"Judge Henry Hudson dealt a blow to Michael Vick's future in the NFL, sentencing the former Falcons' star to 23 months in federal prison for his role in a dogfighting operation."

Not enough time if you ask me...

'Judge Henry Hudson dealt a blow to Michael Vick's future in the NFL'
its bullshit how this screwed up country has people thinking that the judge is somehow to blame for the punishment that Vick is facing

This is about the time Vick got for dogfighting not how screwed up this country is...

thats a whole different topic...

...after time for "good behavior", he'll probably be out in 8 months, just in time for opening day 2008 :poop:

1) no reduced sentence provision, so no
2) State charges still to come (likely 12 months there, consecutively by VA law)
3) Then comes NFL suspension, 1 year min.

since he has already served 8 weeks, I think you could realistically see him in 2012.

The real question is with the money he has amassed, was he smart enought to sell off his assects and let it sit and collect interets while he is gone or will he keep the staff on service to maintain his mansion.

IF .....IF (BIG WORD) If one were to remain neutral and view this whole topic, they might think that Vick recieved a harsh penalty. I mean IF you compare it to all the other celebrity cases that go to court, and recieve a slap on the wrist.

I know it is impossible to remain neutral and the judge has a difficult job to do.I guess the California courts are a lot different than the ones on the right coast. Our judges actually punish guilty people.

compared to sentences other people get for worse crimes...vicks sentence is a little harsh IMO.
yeah, thats what I meant too.

Only problem is..getting drunk and crashing your Rolls Royce into a telephone pole doesnt bring out the protesters like animal cruelty does. A judge has to realize this.

ok..I can read. He'll do all his time, there's no sentence chopping at the Fed level. I've known a few people who've been sent to the Fed. that did all of their time. Now the State is where you'll do about half or less if you don't act like a fool.

His lawyer said today on Sportscenter that'd he'd get out in 18 months with good behavior

yea or getting drunk and running over somebody and killing them. that apparently is only worth 24 months in a state jail also.

same as killing a few dogs...right?

well he proved he makes dumb decisions on the outside I bet it will be hard to stay out of trouble on the inside..

If you have not watch the TV special on National Geographic Channel on prison you need to look for it.

He will get out in 18 months BECAUSE you can build up to 53 days "time served" per year for good behavior in FED (this is capped regardless of crime) AND he turned himself in a little over 6 weeks ago.

I've heard that since he initially lied about killing the dogs, and failed a drug test his sentence was more harsh.

Plus I've read something about not having to do state time, double jeopardy or something.

Either way, at the very least it sends a clear message that it won't be tolerated regardless of money or fame.

I am not agreeing with the 24 month sentance for killing someone, but the lack of protestors matters. If enough people gather in public and the judge gets enough special interest in any case, then the results will vary, thats all.
Especially if it could cause him grief from voters or contributors. Its a nast word , that ''p'' word. POLITICS
In some languages 'POLY' means many and TICKS means blood sucking creatures.

i am not agreeing with that either. my point was if a guy gets 24 months for getting wasted and running over them and killing them....then Vick shouldnt have gotten near 23 months. justice system doesnt make sense.

Makes no sense at all, but that is politics for ya!

I agree, I thought he got way too much, for what he did, then again (and I'm not advocating abusing animals) but I don't really see a problem with Dog fighting or any kinda animal fighting personally. Don't get me wrong I love Dogs, I have a lab thats cool as heck.

But I'm half Cuban and partially Spanish (Mom's like 3/4 Cuban 1/4 Spanish)), my Uncle/Grandpa are all about watching Bullfighting so every time they were around as a kid I kinda grew up watching it. It just kinda makes me wonder if other countries are watching this from the outside and thinking were idiots for punishing a man for doing this.

Like I said, I'm not about being cruel to animals, and I apologize in advance if this offends you/etc, I just don't see a problem with animal fighting in general, I find it pretty entertaining. I guess my main point is its just difference of Cultural upbringing . . . .
