What have you done to your rig today?

The 1st of many needed new parts not on my crawler but on my 1999 jeep grand Cherokee WJ. As you can see the new head light bezzels we in desperate need of replacing. Next will be the front track bar , ball joints, windshield wiper fluid pumps, and new trans filter and sealsView attachment 312374 View attachment 312375

Where did you get the new headlights?

I hope you put it up on the new lift to change the blinker fluid.

My boss always talks about attention to detail. Specifically, MAD. Meticulous Attention to Detail. I probably should have taken that home with me. Regardless, the transmission is back in the Jeep and the crossmember bolted up.

Went on the hunt for a pesky XJ clunk....(3) out of (4) U-joint ends looked like new, but (2) out of the (8) end caps were pretty much void of grease or needle bearings. While I was at it, I found the last guy who had his hands on this jeep, apparently thought you beat unit bearings off, had to file the mating surface down 1/8".

Rebuilt the NP231 shifter linkage with a crown bushing kit (copper heim joint was smoked, unrelated to clunk).

Found the clunk in the end, it was either slop between the new engine mounts (fixed with a washer) or an exhaust hanger that let the exhaust JUST BARELY touch the cross member at take-off...or a combination of the two.

Hood latch Cable broke on Jeep and I mangled the driver side latch on the hood trying to pry it open, I know, not my brightest moment, so I decided to just install hood pins and do away with the latch altogether....magically now there’s a slight gap between hood and grill now, oh well

Had a small leak on the 5.9l in my tow rig.....dodge engineers decided that the timing cover needed to have coolant passages to the water pump.

Previous mechanic put on a new water pump, sheared the head off one of the bolts, and didn't have to spanner to hold the WP pulley, so he mangled the fan clutch nut to hold it all together....then slapped it all back together.

The sheared Bolt rusted to the timing cover and made it impossible to remove, had to drill it out to get it all apart (hard to run true on a 4" bolt hole). Fortunately the bolt came out of the block with zero issues, but the timing cover will probably leak if I don't replace it. A $30 repair went to a $300 repair pretty quickly!

I have a nack for buying vehicles that had REALLY bad mechanics servicing them prior to my ownership!

Pro tip: leave the belt on and whack the fan clutch wrench with a hammer CC. It'll loosen right up every time.

I tried that, and a fan clutch tool kit, and put the WP impeller in a vice once I got the assembly out and used a 15" wrench on it with a 3lbs. sledge.....still didn't budge. The cold chisel they hit the nut with mangled the ID threads. I had to cut the clutch off to save the fan. I hit it with my impact when it was all said and done....and it came off like it was finger tight. I had thought about just reusing the assembly, but I would imagine the bearings in the pump were probably jacked up by the cold chisel impact.

Think I missed (or forgot) something...........But if it clears it clears 1/8" or a mile right?

So is the trip on for Sat? heard it was up in the air.
I was going by your sig line. Was a poor attempt at humor...
Which trip you referring to? I'm hitting that new local honey hole wheeling spot this weekend myself

Get it now. I thought you were in the group going to WV Sat with DannyH and Stuntman. Grant is riding along with dannyH if they go. Maybe two different trips I am getting information third hand from a teenager.

I moved my winch control box under the hood, and wired up a 12voltguy in cab switch. My old grill had a big cut out around the control box, so I ordered a new grill, went to put the Toyota emblem on and realized it was broke, plus the holes didn't line up correctly with the aftermarket grill. So I made me a new emblem.

Looks great! I have a grille you can have if you ever need another.
