whose going wheeling where soon...somewhere serious

After wheeling there in January, not hot, but not too cold, no bugs, and being able to see so much more, I’ve decided wheeling Harlan in the winter is way better than summer, in my opinion lol.

You arent hitting the right trails at the Gulches then, or your rig is awesome. They have a few that are almost impossible to climb.
I see maybe 2 I might have a challenge or tuff time. I've watched that park for months now and not bragging but my rig would crawl all over that park except for maybe 2 spots..not my kinda challenge I'm looking for. Plus I've spoken to several who've been and after describing my rig, was told it's not going to be that challenging.
But every video I've seen of Harlan is freaking awesome and that's been on my bucket list for many years now and I have a rig I believe is very capable for it.

John I have spot 14 reserved at the North Evarts campground and need to call and cancel it today, unless you want it. The first night is paid, $25/night. I have it reserved Thursday to Sunday morning. So the balance is $50. This is a site with power, close to the trail head, and has an extremely nice well lit bath house that’s all clean and done in nice tile.

I’ll try to give you till the end of the day but I need to call and cancel tomorrow if you can’t take it.

As for trail riding I would recommend you scoop up a map and go straight to Pinball, Rail Bed, Fish Fossil, play around in Lower Rock Garden, then hit Killin Time, then enjoy a nice cruise across Trail 15 and start venturing out to what you feel comfortable with from there.

You gotta go try the Tater Munchers at the Dairy Hut. Also, be sure to work your way out to trail 31 and go look at Lions Den. It’s a short trail worth walking thru, maybe you’ll even want to try it.

Note: on the map, those distances looks really far but if you keep the pace up on the main trails (green/blue) you can actually get around pretty good. It’s not that far. I can get from Evarts out to Mason Jar in under 30 minutes usually.
Dang sorry I just got on here. Too late to take it? For that price I'll pay even if I'm not guaranteed to go lol.

Nah I figured you was busy and I’d wait till tomorrow. If you want it, it’s yours.

If it's dry your rig will vary between capable, possible and no fawking way..depending on which trail you run.
If it's raining...well it's a humbling day for full buggies over half that place.
Of course the direction you run some of the trails has a large say in that as well

You're kidding yourself and I believe you'll be rethinking your assessment after you go. That place is only getting more difficult as time passes. What I could walk years ago now takes more.

Lol I'm aware. I really hope it's more on the dry side otherwise oh boy lol

Thanks bud, yeah I'll pay it. For us this kinda trip will be last minute thing...some days wifey wakes up can go places, other days she cant leave the house for nothing so that's how we have to manage. So I call them and take over site 14?

I may have missed it, but is your wife ok?

I just suggest taking whatever spares you have. Harlan can be hard on parts.

Im not saying that Gulches is very difficult, it is a nice day ride. But there are a number of trails there that you never see in videos, mostly because they are too challenging to many to run. It is worth the trip down, atleast once.

Hell no, she's married to Fuller.

I can agree to this. It's worth a trip at least once. There's a couple trails I had trouble on and I consider my rig mildly capable for its size.

She has really bad anxiety and panic disorder, most days cant leave the house which is why my best solution is to be self employed

Haha lol.
And noted on gulches, I will someday make it there but I'm not interested in 2.5hr drive for a few challenges, I want couple days of some serious wheeling

I was just at Harlan and we were able to make rail bed, grapevine, Crawford cry, lions den, Mason jar, etc everything is doable if you are willing to try them :). You may get a little body rash in some of those trails but we'll worth it.

Balance gets paid at the pass house. If something changes and you can’t go last minute, you’ll need to call and see if they will let you cancel, or you’ll have to pay the balance (606) 837-3205‬

They have my card on file and will probably just charge it if you are a no show, so don’t just now show and not call.

Actually, I’ll call them today and explain, and give them your name. I’ll let you know what they say.

I can think of 3 or 4 places you will likely get denied at Gulches. You really only see a couple places in the video and pictures at Gulches. For the record my jeep has been on it's side three times. Two of them were at Gulches on the same day. Now I want to hit up Gulches.....

What exit did you go out of Rail Bed?

We did left and middle exits

Are the two boulders still side by side or did one move further down the trail?
Slightly spaced out. Great pinch point for long wheel base

Yeah please let me know I don't want to ruin anything for you or anyone else because of my not so normal situation. Thank you for understanding

Gulches is the only place I've laid mine over, also twice in the same day lol. If it was only 2.5 hours away I'd be there regularly. It's a great little park.

Laid mine over at Gulches too (see my avatar). I really like going there. There is enough there to keep me busy and challenged.

Skip sold Gulches this year, the new owners are good people and are making improvements and doing maintenance that Skip didn't or couldn't do. The parking lot no longer requires a trail rig to enter.
