Xtreme 4x4 TV takes on Tellico

Yes she does have knowledge of welding, mechanical, etc.. but yes the show is also scripted (just like every other show on tv) she told me the hardest part is that they can not just work on a project and get it done they have to make sure the camera guy always gets his shots...

Here's a pic of what's-her-name one of the TN boys took at the SETTORA run last weekend.

It bothered me SO MUCH watching that show that the boggers were on backwards!! That and the fact its got revolver shackles all the way around. and lockrights in both stock axles w/ 35's?? they'd better be gentle w/ it. BUT it is way cool that you got to hang out with them. tell them to turn the tires around. it's killing me.

I have hard of this for the last few years getting more and more popular.. Just installed my 38.5s at Galloways in May and was even asked "want the back traditional or reverse mounted"

I should have asked WTF but didn't... Sorry to Hijack thread but anyone have any ideas????

MY biggest question is does she really know as much as you are lead to believe on the show? Or is it script? A lady welder is really kewl in my book. And she appears to be a git er done kinda gal too, a real trooper( speaking of the episode where she had to leave to deliver an unhealthy apendix)

based on the discussion I heard today (assuming that's who they were talking about from the past weekend)...you need to ask her what a fusable link is...

Not doubting their welding/fabricating skills. But they dont know jack about wheelin and offroading. You can easily tell its scripted from some dork researching shit on a website somewhere. If you pay attention, you can catch small blurbs.

I mean, look how many first class fabricators and hard core wheelers are on Pirate that applied for that position...and the show chose 2 students out of wyotek?

Its called Xtreme 4x4, I watched one show and they were putting a bolt on lift on a TJ...or another show where they explained lunch box lockers....how extreme is that? I havent watched the show in a while, maybe it has changed some.

Ok lets be real here.. how many of those 1st class fab guys on pirate would you want on your TV show.. If it was my show hardly any of them...

Second all shows are scripted so of course they will make mistakes..

third I asked Ian his experience in off roading and he does not have much wheeling time but trying and willing to learn.. he has a general knowledge and that is what they wanted in a host..

and again from what I heard this past weekend most of the 1st shows were written by the sales team who have no idea about 4x4's.. so of course they suck....

all I can say is they are damn lucky to have the job they have :)

I am just hoping that they get better over time....

Well my impression is this. It( the show) leans more in the direstion of an "offroad" magazine type show rather than a Petersons/JP magazine type show. But, they are doing it, getting better, and have the personalitys to get it done. I know their hands are tied somewhat due to advertisers and such. It sure seems they have the desire to learn more about real world wheeling. In a perfect ( for us ) world, the show would be 2 hours long, have no commercials, and be a lot more in depth. Unfortunatly, that isn't what makes money, and attracts advertisers. I thnk it would be a dream job to be fresh out of school, to have a nice clean shop, working with only new metal, someone else footing the bill, and all the tools needed to do the job. Speaking of shows, I used to really like Shade Tree Mechanic, now it's changed names and formats it seems. Just lost something I think.

i agree - its easy for people (us?) to say how easy somthing is. But i think we fail to realize that were pretty high up the food chain in the world of offroad stuff. IMHO most people do not fab thier own stuff and are simply kit/bolt on people. Some have the ability to better select which parts to mix/match and some need help with that... How many go simple basied on looks or word of mouth vs what they think is better? TV shows are paid for by advertisers selling products...

Point is its easy to forget that we all started at that level weather it was a few years ago (about 6 for me) or 20 years ago long before bolt on kits we avaliable...

Im all for anythign that will help more people get into this hobby/sport and help it grow. A brief look at what you can buy aftermarket, and folks like zubs being able to work full time in this market is proof of the growth... TV shows can only help things...

:stupid: Remember, babysteps. Most of the US is not ready for a hardcore offroading show. They might think they are, which is evident by the name of this show, but they might find it extremely boring watching someone do the things we do. This show is aimed at the general populous. As said above is good to help bring awareness to the sport and eduacate more. This may lead to more push for offroad land and stronger hold on keeping the areas that we have.

Well, it's TV. For some reason all the home improvement shows my wife watches has someone with an Aussie, Canadian, or English accent (Ian). And they also have a young shapely female. If you've followed any of the Pirate threads, she seems to have quite the following.

I bitched about it on pirate too, and Ian was pretty quick to respond. I hear the show is improving, and they're having more influence in the production. As time goes on, Pirate will continue to review them, and they'll learn more. They're going to get to be pretty good quickly if they keep riding around with pro's, getting experienced spotters, and the chance to review their rides on film.

I'm hoping Ken will get a copy of the raw footage to show folks.

I think it's a cool show. You gotta start somewhere. Cool pics too. Jessie is the bomb-diggity. :D

Geez...yall put a lot of thought and time into critiquing a TV show. I've watched it , it held my attention for 30 minutes, mission accomplished. We generally watch and laugh when Ian says "aboat" , but then again If some of us were on the show, people in the rest of the country might be laughing at our redneck ass. It's a show, it's new and at least when my neighbors ask me what in the hell I use "that jeep looking thing" for, some of them now actually say, "oh yeah I saw that on a 4x4 show this past weekend", and I don't have to go into an explaination of how I don't "mudbog" in it. :flipoff2:

P.S. No need to HATE cause they have a better job than all of us, just be happy for them.

You're not even kidding. I've had 3 people look at my pics on the wall and now start to realize what it is I do because of more rock crawling coverage, that show, and the publicity... They used to just look at me funny when they'd say "You go muddin, right?" and I tell them that I'd rather climb a tree than go through a mud puddle, let alone a bog...

To me, the show is getting better, and yeah I'm jeaous that they have the best job in the world. I just keep telling myself they only get paid like $20k a year so I can feel better... :D

Yes I edit my post above

damn andy i just saw the pic of you trying to blow up my buggy!!!!!!!!!

was that tire smoke or hydro fluid? love the pic!

I can see it now. All the bike building shows are going to be replaced with reality tv, who can build the best buggy in one week. They will just have to find two people who will yell at each other all day long and they can make a show out of it.

Good write-up...was an entertaining read...
