MOAB 2014 may 31- june 9th

I got a second to rest today, made our reservations.. arrive june 2nd, depart june 7th. site 110 at Canyonlands campground. The max for the site was 6, I know 2 are deb and I, Joe, Nacoma and passenger make 5, so one more for that site. If any more are set to camp just call, tell them you want beside 110 and they will hook u up. It was only 55 tax and all for six people per night, that's some cheap camping right there. I only had to pay for one night ahead of time so we will get the money together later.
She said site would hold three medium tents.

Had some time on my hands today, I woke up sick yesterday and recovering today. I have been researching what trail/trails I would like to pick to ride and it is very hard to decide, there are just so many. What are you guys leaning towards?

my suggestion would be to do Fins and Things and Hells revenge. Both doable in near stock form, lots to see, LOTS of pucker factor, right outside of town, will get you used to the traction for those who have not been, no reason to break any parts on those and you will be stoked for the rest of the trip!

Is my little dana 30 up front going to be sufficent? I'm a little worried about it, even with the 3.8l powertrain protection plan, for those that don't know, that's the 3.8l with an auto behind it and it's usually to weak to break any drivetrain parts. And the best thing is that it's standard equipment for my year model! :D

So long as you don't drive like a dummy.

In my short time out there, I seen no real drivetrain breaks . Definetly a lot less spinning and bouncing due to a ton of traction. The front axle on Nakoma,s Jeep is very well built as well and can drive with the best of em, as long as the rocks are over 8 inches!

Edit. I did see one, guy busted a hole in front stock diff cover and didn't know it, ran all the gear oil out, spyder gears busted. No telling how many days he went wheeling like that and didn't notice it.

Nakoma, I can't remember if you have a selectable front locker or not, but if you do just leave the front locker disengaged except when you absolutely need it and you should be fine. Most places at Moab you don't need a front locker except the most extreme places.

You will have no problem with the D30. The years we went out there, there were plenty of d30's in our group and none of them broke are joints or shafts. Wish I could make the trip again!

I agree that you should be just fine with the D30 up front. I, for one,l am not planning to beat on mine too hard :)That said, I vote for Hell's Revenge, Poison Spider, Golden Spike, Moab Riim and maybe Pritchett Canyon. I will probably want to stay away from Metal Masher this time :)

You gonna drive yours out there John?

I agree JC, looks like it will be in our favor to bunch up trails like hells revenge, finsand things together. Poisin spyder , golden spike, moab rim together.

Has anyone ran Elephant hill, I have seen video with the walls of petrogliphs/pictographs on it or near it. I would like to do top of the world as well and maybe combine it with something else in that area. The scenery out there is breathtaking no matter where you are. Ill be happy to ride whatever we do.

Jc contacted me about coordinating a condo for the Moab trip, the numbers sound pretty good on price. I think it would also give us some real relaxation, Flint had mentioned this as well. I think Nacoma has talked to JC, Joe please give him a call, Brian give John a call as well. If we decide to go this route I can get my money back for the campsite.

4.5 months out !!!!!!

Talked to Joe, he's good with the switch. 3 bedroom, two bath, two roll out beds. Would come to about $22 a person a night.

The Condo is the way to go! that is what we did. Great place to relaxe after a long day, we cooked our own meals, prepare the daily trail lunches, had a garage to make repairs if needed and keep extra parts and tools secure, could review days pics and videos on comfortable couch with your favorite cold beverage in hand while trading stories and excitement of days events, had washer and dryer so we kept our clothes we had to take to a minimum, all for less than a campsite fee. Hell I am getting excited and I am not even going!

I am not going cancel the reservation I made at canyon lands capground until right before thirty days(Ill get a refund), just in case anyone turns up wanting to go and would like to use it or just wants to camp.
