range

The District Ranger would like to see it reopened, it did help with revenue for the recreation program. Safety is the utmost concern. I've offered to volunteer as range master on weekends and maybe if more did the same it could help the cause. Even if they would agree to open it under conditions that require supervision, there is no money to budget a paid range master it would have to be volunteers, it's still better than no range at all.

I know before it was closed there was a small volunteer effort being started. I was hoping to get to talk to you at the last workday, but at the end when I talked with Ranger Deborah Walker you were almost back to your Jeep. Thanks for the info.

well that sucks. is it matter of the backstop or just people unsafe while using it? maybe the local pd or so has a instructor or two the would go out on the weekends. if i was closer i would on my days off.

I stopped going a few years ago due to unsafe firearm handling by many users. Did you ever see all the holes in the tin roof??

I was riding the trails with my brother in-law a few weeks ago. It was his 1st time at ure and he noticed all the bullet holes in the diamond trail markers on daniel. That lead me to think more about the firing range closure. Isn't the reason it was closed because of reports of stray bullet holes in peoples rigs? Could it be possible this was from careless stupid asses shooting at trail markers and not from the range at all?

Depending on who you talk to around there you might be onto something. Yes that has been brought up by others actually in the FS.

I do know interviews are this month for the new position opening up once the range opens back up.

Last i heard was around open weekend of ohv system

From looking at it Saturday and talking to the boss of the person going to be running it , it will be opening soon.

It's looking really good...never thought I would see them re-open it.

Did they work out a range master system? Redo it?

They will have a full time Range Master yes. If it is open he will be there. Unless it has changed the range will be open Tuesday thru Saturday. Different hours for winter / summer. All this info I have is a few months old though. Directly from the person in charge of ranges for NC for that government agency.

Well you probably can't read it, but it's on NC Wildlife E-mail News Article, today. NRA presented a $25,000 check to the Wildlife Commission, for a Public Shooting Range,in Cleveland County [Shelby].
Rifles, pistols, skeet, 3-D archery course, & trap shotgun, ranges/courses! A Grant from NRA's Public Range Fund. They are working with Wildlife for all states to provide Public Shooting Courses!
Seems like the Right connections, could get a grant for Uwharrie, or FS. Wasn't Uwharrie's Range, opened by the NRA,in the beginning?

The NRA gave a grant to get this range running also already. I think for URE it was either 25,000 or 40,000. That is how it is able to be opening here soon. So you are correct that the NRA is stepping in for us here. And i think it was the NRA years ago that got this range here to begin with.

I wasn't aware they had given a second Grant, Good for them! I could tell be the Article, they're doing All they can, to support Gun owners!

Just talked to the guys up here building the range and it is finished. Not too sure at this time when it will open but will call the guy running the show today and ask him. It is pretty darn sweet. Asked if I could be the first to shoot it and that was denied.

Official word is this.

Range opens at 1000 hrs on May 13 2014.

There you have it.

Days open will be Tuesday thru Saturday. It opens at 1000 hrs each day and right now I can not remember closing time each day. I figure about 1800 hrs for right now. But I do know hours will change between summer / winter.
