And how about the old western movies where Clint Eastwood plays a confederate soldier? To offensive?

Well there is at least one sure thing that is coming out all this.....Sales of the confederate flag are through the "Roof"..... :flipoff2:

If i may ask, where were you raised?
I lived in PA until I was 10 and then the rest of my life in NC.

But honestly that doesn't really matter. I honestly thought the Civil War was about States Rights until I knew more about it and spent years researching things about it in college.

Here's a different take on the tag-flag issue. I know it very well for we have 2 parked right out front. One is one of the 3 founders / owners of the company I work for and the other has been here for over 25 years. And if you talk to them, they are just like anybody else and no more racist than any of us. Mr. Bass has employed 2 black employees since I've been here.
First off to explain, to apply for the tag to represent the Sons of Confederacy Organization, you have to present proof that 2 blood kin soldiers in your family served for the confederacy. I looked into this myself but half my family came from Ireland, Sweeden and Germany and had nothing to do with the battle and half of the other half was Cherokee Indian. So chances of me finding proof out of 1/4 of my family was slim to none especially since I have much of nothing to go by.
But the Sons of the Confederacy are just plain out guru's of the Civil War. Their favorite past time is either talking about everything Confederate, hunting for relics or camping out at Battlefield State Parks during certain times of the year to participate in reenactments. The last - being reenactments have a lot of participants along with a lot of onlookers who mostly come from out of town to watch. The designated battle field parks bring in tourism for NC and bring in money.
The SOC's goal is to teach history, get together with others to keep the spirit of the confederacy alive and to have fun while doing it. But definitely not to go tie a noose to a tree somewhere.
Today's articles in the N&O from commentator Barry Saunders and the writeup from interviewing Pat McCrory has struck a nerve with Mr. Bass and Mr. Peacock. And we all got an ear full of it today during lunch.
I for one grew up in Cherokee Indian / Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett territory. It was the area that most on here probably never heard of. It was the unknown State of Franklin that lasted about 4-5 years. "Land of the Free". It was made up of representatives both Indians and White Settlers who wanted nothing to do with the Civil War issues nor Slavery. It was an isolated territory in the mountains of North Eastern Tennessee. And there's reasons why the population there today is less than 1% black. Not that they are not wanted, but because there are no slave ancestors originally from there.
But after moving to NC, there's a whole other side I was never exposed to, taught in school or by relatives / historians about the Civil War. But I can tell you one thing is for sure! That any white male in the State of NC who's parents are originally from here take much pride in the Confederate Army. The stories they were told from their parents about the sacrifices that were made for the Civil War is still fresh for the war took place just 150 years ago today. Much of their grandfather's, Great Uncles and Cousins blood was shed all over this area for the land they own and grew up on. There will be another Rise of the South if ever those tags are taken away...

I grew up in an area with a low black population. I thought racism was dead until I started working at a paint factory in Greensboro with 80% of the employees being black.

All I ever hear is how hard they have it, how oppressed they are, how the white man can do anything but they can't strut down the street without being question by a pig, and my favorite is the blacks can't do better for themselves because they come from poverty and it's a never ending circle.

I tell them all the time when I hear that crap that they are the reason race is so relevant. I view them as coworkers they view me as the white coworker. I tell them if they want equality as a race then to cancel black history month. Stop the naacp and any other program just for blacks. You can't have special organizations and programs for your race then ask to not be treated as a separate race.

Damn. I wish I could like something 1000 times. "Look at me I'm different! quit treating me like I'm different."

When I am out milling about in public, I feel this quiet rage from people of all stripes. There seems to be this super heated frustration right below the surface.

Blacks are convinced that they are oppressed by whites and nothing, not money or favoritism or political power can satisfy it. I see it in the way the black woman "ignores" me in the grocery isle while smirking at the same time. I see it when the fellow in the left lane refuses to move over with his seat reclined so far back he can't see while playing deafening bass to show everyone who he is. I see it when I pay my water bill and the woman puts on a tone of superiority all while she cannot pronounce common words with any sort of success. I see it in the protests and looting by people who are supported by tax dollars which allow them the luxory of spending days in the streets without hardship.

Whites have been hammered upon and forced to retreat from any sort of racial love of themselves and are just angry and don't know why. Most have not put it together that they are hated by most of the world. Most do not yet comprehend that they are trained every second to give but never keep respect. They are not allowed pride of their heritage but must honor other's. They are like a tiger forced to perform and keep a face of tameness all the while screaming inside "i'll kill you!" Most have given over to apathy and political correctness to such an extent that they will self depreciate themselves and their own people to avoid the appearance of being "racist". One day, whitey is going to snap and the suburban white male will become undomesticated.

Latinos are boiling too. They view a large part of the southwest as stolen property. They are in this country, but not part of it. They are bent on a slow takeover and the blacks and whites are just another obstical to overcome. They are savvy in business and hardworking when it benefits them and are making inroads into every facet of the economy. I see young brown men stare at me like I have called them a name and the disdain just under control is so strong I can smell it.

The rage is upon us. If you do not feel it, it matters little for that same rage will devour you whether you sense it or not. Many factors come into play when we discuss the future of this former united States (capitalization correct) but one thing you can be sure of, harmony is not assured or even a real possibility. We are too divided along too many lines to ever be one nation. Prepare as best you can.

The Battle Flag is a symbol of pride of a people. Of resistance to tyranny and independence from central control. I say again. may this spirit arise anew and may all people realize that the enemy is and has always been collectivism and lust for power.

I honestly don't know where to start with this post. You obviously have a history knowledge taught to you by an 11th grade history teacher.

And I really can't believe that God supports ANY war, but that's just me. Especially one that was fought over the expansion of slavery. :p
Ever here of the Isrealites? They where not a bunch of peace loving hippies, go back in history and ask the Canninites, and a few, other nations.

Agreed. Bet your post starts a shit storm of "facts".
;)

Explain these facts please.
Greetings Mr. Bowe. You know me, i am not an intelligent person.
So why you be axing me?
And you are correct on the Crusades.
Just stirring the pot on a VERY complex issue.

It COULD represent racism?

The Nazi Flag COULD represent anti-smoking...

Neither should be represented in a globalized society. Stop representing it as a protest. You look like a bigot and a hypocrite.

Set the example as a tread lightly society and let the past be past, but never forget that history. I believe the flags should be taken down at the capital, but the monuments off the campus should live on in infamy or we will be doomed to repeat history.

The only way that Liberty (classical Liberty) prospers and is propagated is through revolution/anti-revolution. Men will ALWAYS over reach and desire more and more power, never content to allow men to set their own course and plot their own destiny by rule of law and Natural Rights. Every so many years when people have enough, they arise to pull down those elitists who presume to rule them. It is the way of things because of the lust for power and the complacency of living. We are LONG overdue.

To the above troll, I would only look like a bigot to those who make a business of wishing to force others to live as they are told. Collectivists will always look down the nose at those who have their own ideas and form their own code. I am not a representative of a global society and have no desire to have my wishes and pursuits accepted or legitimized by it, only to be left alone. Trust that I will indeed never forget that history. I as one trust that we will repeat it just as it has been repeated throughout time and may God steel the hearts of those who it has been appointed their hour of action.

I don't lose my mind when I see a Che flag or a Malcom X shirt or a Hope and Change bumper sticker, I chalk it up to ignorance and maybe evil intent. In a free society (not that we are such, but indulge me a moment) we cannot pick and chose which speech is free, which weapons are legal and which personal effects are private without a warrant.

There are those who will defend with incredible violence not just their way of living but the history which brought them to it. With Liberty comes responsibility, danger and offense.

Come collect my flag you fuckers.

To me, it means you're a redneck retard. I guess it is because every rig I've seen acting the fool at URE or anywhere else has one affixed to it. Could care less about it and Bud light.

Sucks for all the people who really care about it but the ignorant many have ruined it for me.

A lot of good stuff in here. Sums up a lot of my thoughts.

Since I'll openly admit I'm a judgemental person...
If I see a guy in civil war dress with the stars and bars, I assume he is respectful.
If I see a kid with his confederate flag flying high in his daddy's money truck, I assume he's a redneck tardbag.

I see both sides of the argument about the meaning. Obviously slavery was a part of the civil war equation, but so were many other things, and we could argue all day about it and still make no progress. The founders of this country were insistent upon states rights, so regardless of which side of the Mason-Dixon line you live on, we should be offended by the intrusive and increasingly tyrannical federal government that is claiming to represent the flag of the United States of America. If that's what the US flag stands for, should we be calling for it to be taken down?

So once again what we've come to is an impasse. One side says one thing, the other side disagrees. It was slavery, it wasn't slavery. God exists, no he doesn't. My dick is bigger than yours, Nuh-uuuuh.

The intrawebs; where all great problems can be solved! If only the web was around in 1851, maybe there never would have been an American Civil War.

Yeah well here's my trump card. I introduce for your review Mr. Charlie Daniels' statement on the flag. The fact he's wearing a Tennessee hat bolsters his credibility in my eyes.

http://tasteofcountry.com/charlie-daniels-confederate-flag/

Of course we know most politicians are going to chime in and glean whatever political hay that is available, but, in my book, the corporate rush to rid their shelves of anything with the Confederate battle flag on it is pure hypocrisy. If they felt that deeply about the subject, they should have done something years ago and I notice they have no problem accepting the profits from the merchandise they have on hand.”

Daniels goes on to recount his own experience growing up in the South, where he says there was a widespread feeling at the time that Northerners looked down on Southerners. The country legend says that as result, “the Confederate battle flag was a sign of defiance, a sign of pride, a declaration of a geographical area that you were proud to be from.”

“That’s all it is to me and all it ever has ever been to me,” he states. “I can’t speak for all, but I know in my heart that most Southerners feel the same way.”

This is the kind of cowardice I despise. Someone claims to feel strongly on a subject but not strongly enough to attach their own name to it, so they go create a burner account to hide behind their true feelings. Probably because they are a small business owner and don't want their customers to knows how they truly feel. So they'll take money from people they perceive to be immoral, but won't vstate their feelings publically.

Typical.

History Lesson

Propagandized bullshit there...but we've already attacked that here earlier in the thread.

BTW video had 3 indisputable factual errors,I'll let you find them.
