NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

They aint easy to find....game cameras always at night. Never consistent.
Have 1 boar on cam that is 300lb+ then a couple sows and a herd of rats

Feed them for a couple weeks and you can start patterning them.

Or find someone with dogs if you think they are staying on your property or your friends with the neighbors

....could prolly trap them too
trapping is hit or miss. if they even seen a trap before chances are they aren't going in it again. thats why places like texas that have tons of pigs people started using the circle spin traps where they can see all the way around and dont feel like they are going into a trap.

I have access to thermals....

@YJJPWrangler I need to get down there more often. I have family all over down there and havent hunted it in probably 15 years. Where were yall hunting?

We normally hunt Woodbury but it was 15' under water. We tried Marsh but it was flooded as well. We scouted Little Pee Dee but there was a lot of old sign there. We ended up at Waccamaw and thats where we found all of them. Usually Woodbury is a sure thing since all the hogs migrate there for mating/food etc. But since it was flooded out, the pigs couldn't get there or leave.

We have a constant supply of corn available.
They will drop in and be 2 or 3 nights strong then disappear for 2-3 weeks.

Have a friend 4-5 miles down the line who has the same big boar on cam.
So hes just long line grazing

Not a bad day for the first time fishing this lake. Only caught 8 but they all were over 12”

Yeah, next time I will.
I accidentally cut the cape too short to do a shoulder mount :kaioken:. I didn’t realize it until the taxidermist said he couldn’t do a full shoulder mount. I’ll be more careful next time

Could have used a cape from another deer. That's what I had to do on the last one I had mounted.

I was overly careful with my buck & ended up taking most of the hide (from in front of the rear legs to the head) to the taxidermist. He appreciated it since he could use it on mine (or someone else's) cape if it was messed up. He also lets his kid help & it was less risky for him to practice on a 'scrap' piece before working on the real thing.

Bottom half of the hunting property is flood plane...brother was out looking for some turkeys couple days ago when it rained hard and noticed the water was pretty active. Rained hard again yesterday, decided to bust out the bow fishing gear this morning. Brother’s buddy got the big fish though.

Where is everyone’s turkey pics?
Got shutout this year.

I had a full on parade leading up to season....incuding one Janitor Tom who I was salivating over.....1 week out and poof. MF'ers vanished.
Everyone of them. Aint seen anything more than 1 spooked Jake all season.

Edit: BTW I got a text asking what a Janitor Tom was.....my son and I started calling this bird Janitor Tom because he liked to sweep. He drug a whisk broom across the ground everywhere he went...not the biggest bodied bird but damn what a long beard

I can relate unfortunately. I was getting pics of good birds on the local land I hunt right up until opening day. Went there 6 times for sunrise and never heard a bird. I can usually hear one a good 1/2-3/4 of a mile away, nothin! Haven’t gotten a pic of a bird since. I wound up having a fun, successful season though. I’ll post about that when I get more time.

Never been much of a bass fisher man, always crappie, catfish, trout and walleye. Girlfriend’s family bass fishes and I get schooled every time we go.... Ran into one of the land owners that I deer hunt at my buddies wedding and was talking fishing with him. He told me to run down to the barn and go through his “over stock” bass stuff and take anything I wanted.

Got a big bass pro bag so full of plastic baits I couldn’t pull the top closed together, most of it is bass stuff found a couple things I like for walleye fishing.

Landowner went to his barn today and called and asked if I had been to the barn. Told him yeah I got a bag full, I got yelled at he said he meant for me to at least take a tote full of stuff home with me. And then asked if I got any thing besides soft baits. No, well I got an ear full for that to. Apparently being retired and fishing every day you pick up a lot of stuff.

I was stepping on this guys neck @6:10 AM in Pennsylvania on April 29th. He flew down 150yds out on a ridge top pasture and I shot him at 30yds. An hr and a half later we heard a bird gobble less than 30yds from us and totally ambushed him. Turned out to be a nice 3yr old. 9.5” beard, 1 3/8” and 1 7/16” spurs. It was a good morning!

Fast forward to May 7th, I was hiking my ass off all morning near Pisgah NF and finally struck a good bird far out about 10:10 am. The second call revealed he was closing the distance QUICKLY. I scrambled to get set up and shot him at 30yds @10:20am.

That was the last chance I got to hunt turkey this year, ended well.
